Summary: Today I'll be spouting about the Pharos Science PDR135 Automotive GPS Receiver. I got mine used on eBay for a very low price and it came with all the accessories including the box as new. Being an older unit I was content with some street names being the old style, however it showed our street as Cove as it should rather than Place where even the most popular PC mapping programs had this anomaly.
Summary: I purchased this product for my grandmother. So I didn't need all the bells and whistles as with other units. Pharos offers free maps which is great but it is limited to 3 a day. I decided to use it for a bit to get to know the system and that's where the problems started. The display is fairly decent in size but is kind of overly sensitive. You have to touch dead center on the letters when entering addresses.
Summary: Crappy piece of junk. Cons : 1> Cannot find destinations most of time. 2> stops in middle of journey and searches for signals... 3> takes a long long long long time to get signals. 4> battery dies down daily and needs to be recalibrated often. Frustrating, I pretty much was about to throw it out of my window on I 95. Do everyone a favor. do not buy this [...].
Summary: I bought this and did not really even know anything about a GPS. I am SUPER happy with this thing. EXTREMLY easy to work. I must admit it is a bit outdated considering there are some new homes that have been built in our area in the last year or so, but I LIKE it. I like the fact that it is USER FRIENDLY. Plug and play item with a NICE tough case.
Summary: This is the first GPS I have ever purchased. The unit is nice and appealing. Its a little older nowadays but does what I need it to. The map is easy to read and battery life is really good. ( i get about 3-4 hrs a charge )Support for the product is good through pharos ( i was missing the companion cd, and they sent it out to me free of charge ) Now right after I purchased this unit I purchased another ( pioneer AVIC-S1 ) which also is a little outdated nowadays but I...
Summary: Had a very difficult timer getting this unit to work. 9 out of 10 times it would lock up just trying to power it on and calibrate the touch screen. Once calibrated, it would lock up every 3-5 days of use requiring a power off and then try cycling it several times till it woudl finally calibrate and be used. unacceptable to have it crap out and require that I stop the car and fiddle with it to get it operating again so i could complete my journey.
Summary: I have been using this GPS navigation unit for about 4 months now and have found it to be good for the price. The screen is large and overall the unit is accurate. I even get the signal inside my home. It gives accurate directions and is fairly loud. I had been a looking for a somewhat cheap GPS (because I am student) and I am quite happy with this purchase.
Summary: Out of the box, the GPS 135 was able to sync up while still inside the house. Suction mount was decent. LCD screen was perfectly readable in broad daylight. The performance of the GPS 135 was comparable to my Garmin c330 in terms of navigation, routing, and POIs. While the GPS 135 only has one speaker vs two on the c330, the dedicated nagivation, menu and zoom buttons on the front are invaluable.
