Old works sorta

badmedic1, Ebay
24 November 2012
  • Summary: With the CURRENT generation of GPS receivers for your car including the built in ones this one is an old anachronism. Cannot be updated as the company went out of business, runs on Windows CE (which win6 (Vista) 7/ + 8 have a hard time recognizing (windows mobile center) most of the roads that are available on the 1997 chip (all that there is out there, as the upgrade chip initially cost more than the unit itself.

Nextar S3 GPS

Reflection, Amazon
29 October 2011
  • Summary: I have had this GPS for several years now. I Purchased it in 2008 for under $150. It has served me well. I have traveled out of town and state with it. It has always got me to my destination. The voice is clear and distinctive. It has kept me from getting tickets, my telling me: "you are exceeding the speed limit", The sound is good. I haven't had to update the map - I think it does that each time I turn it on.

Nextar should do better

Seth Jones, Amazon
24 January 2010
  • Summary: My uncle gave me this unit because he gave up trying to figure out how to use it. I used it on a trip from maine to massachussets with no problem. Teh battery life was very bad. It would go completely dead if not on the charger after about 12 hours (when turned off). When plugged into its ac adapter the screan would flicker and the unit would lock up I then used it around town in worcester twice. Yesturday I was going to use it again.

  • Summary: This product is a little bit difficult to figure out. It takes a long time to browse points of interest. It also has old maps from 2007, a few things just aren't in it.

Cheesy but cheap

Gayle M. Regalia, Amazon
6 January 2009
  • Summary: This is a pretty cheesy GPS, but I guess I got what I paid for....I tried to find a local movie theatre through POI and it couldn't find it. Some newer local roads are not found either. Screen is a little smaller than what I am use too. And the MP3 playing function was a selling point for me, but useless because you can't use the GPS for directions and play MP3's at the same time. You need to swap the SD Card for this to work. What can I say, it was under 100 dollars.

One of the best buys I made last year.

Jon A. Booker "Jon", Amazon
21 December 2008
  • Summary: this GPS is everything you would want for the price. The directions are wonderful and have shown us new short cuts that we did not know even after living here for many years. The text to voice is wonderful. Easy to understand and the volume is adjustable. We have had some problem with slowness in recalculating the location if we don't follow the directions exactly. However, the GPS will ALWAYS get you where you want to go. The price is great and quality high.
