Summary: I purchased this on an Amazon sale for about 1/2 price and must say it was the best value for the money at the time. I've own it now for about a year and have been very happy for a 2nd generate device. Pros-easy to create routes by several methods. -very accurate -icon that lets you know what lane to be in ahead of time. -easily toggle between speed, time and distance to go. -quick satellite acquisition.
Summary: I bought this two and half years ago. I was spending a lot of time in the States and needed a GPS. I bought it because I thought once I got home I could get UK maps for it and fit them on the Hard drive. Now, as others have noted it's discontinued and I can't even get updates for the US, so I've had to buy a Nuvi for UK and Europe and TomTom software for my Phone for US trips.
Summary: It is very unfortunate that you cannot get map updates for this GPS. Overall I found it to be well built, easy to use and efficient. However, I have had the unit for over 2 years. The maps are in serious need of up-dating and there appears no way to do that. There are many places in the country that are constantly changing (Palm Springs, Las Vegas, etc.) On my last visit to Las Vegas this device was practically useless as the map software is so out of date.
Summary: I have a 550 and have had nothing but problems. Sent back to Navman after 6 mos. of very light use because the touch screen stopped working. They took 6 weeks to fix it. Now trying to buy updated maps for US and told Navman does not support map updates for this product anymore. What a joke.
Summary: The Navman 550 is an excellent transportable GPS product that is easy to program and easy to operate. Its precise voice instructions in addition to its easily read and understood graphics make it a joy to use.
