Summary: NAVMAN iCN 510 Vs. iCN 520 Portable GPS Navigation System
My original purchase was a iCN 510, After about a year I bought the software upgrade that now ships in
the newer model, the iCN 520. with the new software installed, my older iCN 510 now has the same specs
as the iCN 520. Only the color is different.
Both on my bike and in my car, I can give a more robust review, after having used this unit for several
months in addition to testing it with its original software.
Summary: I bought this item as a suprise for my husband, he uses it every day for work. He no longer has to print out maps, he just types in the address and it takes him right to his destination. Good product for the price.
Summary: Navman 510. Yeah, I brought mine on ebay last year for £70 when Navman brought out a newer model and all the 'latest gadget folk' traded theirs in for latest one. For a while, ebay was full of 510s. I love it. Its small, lightweight, flat, and fits into the inside pocket of my coat without making me look as if I have one boob bigger then the other.
Pros: Easy to use
Cons: Takes a while to find a signal when you first turn it on..but then, they all do...
Summary: Great piece of kit, and well worth the money, especially as the 520 is discountinued. I've had my unit for almost a year now, and I can't complain about it's overall performance, it simply does what it is supposed to do, no better or worse than any other GPS system on the market.
Pros: Slim unit, large clear touch screen, good map detail, and clear voice instructions. Lots of features, too many to mention here.
Cons: Screen visibility poor in strong daylight, Scroll wheel too sensitive for inputting most commands, resulting in wrong menu setting being highlighted, and the user having to resort to either tapping the screen or using the stylus pen. Internal speaker small, and audio thin and tinny, although an external speaker can be added to improve speech quality. Maps are outdated, and the lack of adding voice packs. GPS signal fixes can sometimes be slow.
Summary: love it, best money i ever spent. Use it nearly every day....
Pros: Easy to upload POI's and add new poi's. Easy to use, voice is clear and can be used hand held in CBD for e.g.
Cons: Maps are poor with outdated information. New release of map data is very slow compared to other non-Sensis models. Maps are expensive to buy upgrades, especially after spending $600-$900 for device to start with.
