"mio service is horrific, upgrades irreversible,BEWARE,"
24 May 2010
Pros: the mio is a magnificient device except for one thing, the maps are terrible, they lead to blind alleys and stores which are not there,,the upgrades are worse, no "nearby" selections and GPS lock takes 20 minutes, do not buy MIO,,
Cons: everything, customer service, device upgrades, they charge 80 bucks for anything, and no warranty, the upgrade stinks and is not repairable,,,
"Upgrade to 2008 map and it becomes absolute junk"
25 September 2009
Pros: I paid retail for this product when it first came out, and it had high resolution screen, split screen, fairly good navigation and working blue tooth.
Cons: After waiting for the map upgrade to drop from AU$180.00 to AU$80, I purchased and installed the 2008 map 'upgrade' which: downgraded the resolution to dos level, removed split screen, changed the voices, installed basic navman software.
Cons: i enter an address it takes me 2 blocks past were i am supost to be have called mio 6 times same thing try this try that try the new update still not correct mio told me we have nothing to replace it customer service
Summary: I bought the C520 in Jan 2008 and found it to be pretty easy to use, although the interface can be maddening at times. The biggest complaints I have are (1) Re-boots frequently and (2) Maps hopelessly out of date. The re-boots occur when the volume on the text-to-speech is muted - after a while I get really annoyed at the 'GPS babe" announcing that I'll need to turn in 700', 400', 200' etc (it's like having my wife giving me directions!
Summary: I was using this device and its working perfect. Then I bought a map update CD for $80+tax+shipping. I did the firmware update. Then for map update, you have to go on the site to receive the activation code. When I put all the information, this is what I get msxml3.dll error '80072efd' A connection with the server could not be established /mapupdate/inc/conn.asp, line 21 Now the bad side is that due to firmware update, I can't use the map application and have to wait...
Summary: I hate to return this unit because of the great features in one unit. I received my refund from AMAZON yesterday. Five stars with all the features except for the main purpose of this item, the GPS/MAP for Hawaii, i.e. Honolulu, Maui, Big Island, and Kauia need to be completely revise. I travel to different island for my work a month ago and the MIO map is unreliable. A lot of streets are wrong or will give you a wrong direction.
Summary: I bought this product on April 4, 2008 and the features are very nice. I had no trouble connecting 'bluetooth' devices and setting destinations without reading the manual (since you have to print the 100 page MioMap manual and the 100 page hardware manual. BUT, I cannot find my way home!! I have lived in a relatively new house for 3 1/2 years and my street does not appear on the maps. Checking, I find the maps on my NEW Mio C520 are dated 2006.
Summary: Let me start by saying that I love the "idea" of this item. Tons of features including bluetooth and MP3 playability built in to a really advanced GPS navigator. Tons of mapping and routing options. Split screen control and more information displayed at a given time than any other brand of GPS. Great concept, but the Mio C520 is an absolute failure in execution. Sorry, Mio lovers (is there such a thing), but it's the plain and simple truth.
