Really nice

Copswife, Amazon
8 January 2013
  • Summary: I am extremely happy with the vakue and quality of the product. It boots up quickly and works very simply even for the not so savy GPS users. The maps are easily upgraded and cheap compared to other GPS companies.

Outstanding GPS for the money

Show-Me, Amazon
9 October 2012
  • Summary: I just used this GPS on a four day hiking trip and it was remarkable. I read a lot of the reviews on Amazon and noticed the negative reviews seemed to come from less than tech savoy individuals. I bought this GPS as factory refurbished knowing that a refurb had to be checked 100%. And had no technical issues while in the field. Yes, it takes a few minutes to start up and lock on to satellites but once locked on even thick woods and deep valleys can't stop this thing.

  • Pros: easy to read very easy to load maps.. just put them on a sd card and your on your way. no need to hook up to computer. very accurate.. easy to use once you update to 1.78 firmware
  • Cons: battery lasts on average about 8 to 10 hours. before the 1.78 firmware it was harder to move around in the menus..

Great for geocaching

Weather Witch, Amazon
26 May 2010
  • Summary: I bought this item for geocaching and it works great. Inital startup takes some time to do on the computer and a driver from the geocache site has to be downloaded to interface with the unit. However, it is very easy to use and works well for geocaching. You simply connect to the site and download the coordinates. It shows the destination as a flag with direct path. The course you traverse is in another color to show how close you actual are to the destination.

Am I missing something?

Kathleen Derevan, Amazon
14 July 2009
  • Summary: I see all the bad reviews of this product and wonder what's wrong with me because I was able to get it up and running without pain. I'm a neophyte when it comes to handheld GPS units; I use the one in my car a lot, and I am pretty good with a computer. I had the software installed, updated, and the firmware updated with no problems, and quickly. After that, the little GPS works great for my needs. It reads the satellites quickly and is very accurate, even inside.

"With a little help...this works easier than you think."

JeffreySee, CNET

  • Pros: The product DOES work as advertised; a few updates need to happen, but once done, you'll be happy. Try this website: http://www.jungleghost.com/ and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
  • Cons: Perhaps a little bulky. Other than that...

Works quite nicely

Mark Rhodes, Amazon
14 February 2009
  • Summary: I bought this unit because I was in a large local retail chain and they were selling this unit for $99. I bought it without doing the usual reserach. Before I opened it up, I went online and ran into a bunch of bad reviews and some ok reviews. Well I am here to say that my Triton 400 works perfectly well. I bought the adventure pack which also includes the Topo software.

Magellan Triton 400

K. Anderson, Amazon
13 February 2009
  • Summary: After reviewing various GPS systems, I decided to purchase the Triton 400. I must say the majority of the reviews I read must have come prior to the firmware update currently available on the Magellan website. Once updated this unit has performed better than any GPS system previously owned (Non Magellan). I could not believe the sat. lock time. It was literally seconds inside my home. While traveling outdoors it seemed to lock as soon as I booted up the system.
