What I need, was an advanced digital compass, and that is exactly what this does

Summary: I actually like the unit... What I need, was an advanced digital compass, and that is exactly what this does. This is not a top tier unit, but does offer flexibility with the Nat Geo Topo maps. It's a great buy, for under 50 bucks, and is perfect for camping kits, bird watchers, day walkers, hikers, and bug-out kits. I'm sure the boy/girl scout in your life would enjoy. Very easy to use, out of the box. I did my firmware update, and the unit works well!
Summary: I have owned this unit for a long time and the Topo! software for California as well. I do have the updated firmware for both the gps unit and the Vantagepoint software . I don't work for Magellan nor National Geographic. I link the unit to computers using xp and vista. At first, yes it took some getting used to working the unit with the two softwares (Topo! and VantagePoint).
Summary: I am a member of a K-9 search and rescue team and we use GPS devices a lot. This one for the money is just as good as the higher priced ones. The only problem I have is and it is just my own personal preference is it would be better with topo maps.
Summary: It was ok, can't seem to get it downloaded for the maps..so don't really have much use for it..tried for hours to download the maps, with no success...I would like to return it,but I have lost the receipt...
Summary: First off, I do not own this model. At the time I ordered it, the 300 was backordered, so they sent me a more expensive 400 for no charge. No matter how much a person hates a company's customer support, you have to admit that's beyond fair. I'm writing this review for the 300 for a reason...BUY THE 400, NOT THIS ONE!! There isn't that much difference in the two. The 400 won't give you more accuracy, better base-maps, or anything like that.
