Summary: I would highly recommend it for beginners. I have had it a few years now and like it a lot, has stood up well. The 300 is a fairly rugged design overall and waterproof, although I never got it wet, that's nice to know. Works great for the price paid.
What I need, was an advanced digital compass, and that is exactly what this does

Summary: I actually like the unit... What I need, was an advanced digital compass, and that is exactly what this does. This is not a top tier unit, but does offer flexibility with the Nat Geo Topo maps.
Summary: I have owned this unit for a long time and the Topo! software for California as well. I do have the updated firmware for both the gps unit and the Vantagepoint software . I don't work for Magellan nor National Geographic. I link the unit to computers using xp and vista.
OK for what I needed at a bargain price, but not UK programmed

Summary: This is a good product but not for the UK market as there is no built in maps for hiking in the uk or coastal maps. I bought it as a back up for my boat gps as it shows lat/long and compass direction plus speed so in that mode it was all I needed.
Summary: I am not sure if the seller was aware of this so I am not judging; however the GPS I received from him was factory repaired and it included software to run the unit that was many years ancient; and the mapping software including functions were way out of date.
It cost me $7 to return this product twice, the 2nd time being finale.

Summary: I previously owned a Magellan Blazer 12 GPS for about 14 years that worked fantastic and still does. I wanted to upgrade to the Magellan Triton 300 and was sorely disappointed. The GPS would get a location fix, but would not set the date and time.
Summary: I am a member of a K-9 search and rescue team and we use GPS devices a lot. This one for the money is just as good as the higher priced ones. The only problem I have is and it is just my own personal preference is it would be better with topo maps.
