Summary: I've had this GPS for quite a while now and I hesitated in writing a review, hoping that maybe I missed something, or needed to download a patch or needed to do something! I really wanted to like this GPS, it looked so good on paper and I have a lot of respect for the Magellan brand. I have owned several Magellans and have enjoyed them. This one, not so much. I am an avid geocacher and I was excited to see that this unit had a lot of features dedicated to the hobby.
Summary: Awhile back I wrote a review for a sister product Magellan Triton 400 Waterproof Hiking GPS and although I gave it a four star review it wasn't without its faults. On this later reiteration of the same line of products you would imagine that they would work on improving the the negatives to create a superior product. Unfortunately they only added more features and fixed none of the numerous complaints from the same line nearly two years prior.
Summary: Magellan, you need to get your act together. First you taunt us with the long and repeatedly delayed release of this "ultra" handheld GPS Magellan Triton 2000 Handheld Navigation System . Then you insult our intelligence with your useless, uninformed "Tech Support Staff". Finally, when the unit ships, it is only capable of displaying your location on the base map between interstate highways. Where are the street level maps? When will they be available? Useless, Bad deal.
Summary: I bought this item due to reviews in a hunting magazine and for the seeming good price of the vendor. When I received it, it would not work properly at all. There was not a single function that operated properly. I contacted the warranty department, and luckily for me, they unhesitatingly replaced it with another one. Since then, I have been working on and off with it - seems somewhat more complex to operate than you would imagine.
Was really excited but it quickly turned to frustration

Summary: I loved the idea of an ultra-rugged GPS that could take some abuse and still offer top of the line features. However, the problems began as soon as I got it out of the box. I'm a pretty tech-savvy guy, but the interface is not intuitive at all. I struggled with the basic operation of it, trying to get street level maps. It came with two AA alkaline batteries which quickly drained. For a unit at this price point, I'd expect lithium ones.
