Summary: The GPS is fine and works well. It's the company that refurbished it that frustrated me. Why fix something and send it out with a bad battery. Be advised! The battery is not covered in the warranty.
Summary: Found it to be a reliable guide almost wherever I've tried to use it. The speaker's diction is hard to figure out when (I think) she says "maining on ... street or ...", she means "remaining on ..." I would have expected that updates would have corrected that lack of clarity —and maybe some other diction things.
Refurbished 5145T-LM Worked Fine on our 10-Day Road Trip

Summary: I purchased a factory refurbished 5145T-LM unit from TigerDirect during a 1-day sale back in July for use on a 10-day road trip with my two kids. The price was low enough (sub-$70) that I thought I'd take a chance. It seems to be a roll-of-the-dice situation with most of these cheaper units and I've always had good luck with refurbished. I didn't take the time to update the maps (still haven't gotten around to it) but for our trip, it didn't seem to make a difference.
Summary: When first purchased, had a lot of issues trying to connect to a PC to check for map updates. I thought the GPS was defective, got an RMA #, and then it suddenly worked and I was able to load the newest maps. Installed it in our car, and used it over the next 6 months. It's a very good GPS. The traffic feature has worked well and saved us time. The maps have been accurate and navigation has been spot on. Everything going great, until last week.
Worst customer service I've encountered in a LONG time
6 July 2013
Summary: I'm sorry for the lengthy review. I don't believe in rambling but it's kind of a long story. First, the unit itself works.... alright. Not great but reasonably well. My google maps on my smart phone actually is more accurate. But I would NEVER again purchase a Magellan product. It is the most clueless company I may have ever dealt with. I purchased this product specifically because it was capable of downloading European maps. We were planning a trip to Scotland.
Summary: Thia is my second (and last) Magellan. It is a total piece of garbage. It constantly freezes and then restarts- but it never actually does anything. Do not buy this unless you have a back-up unit because this one is crap.
Buy something else, this is completely unreliable!

Summary: Bought unit July 2012, departed NY in Aug for month long trip to Alaska, unit died 2 weeks into trip. Upon return, they sent me a new power cord, it worked the day I received the cord. I put the unit away that same day, then recently went to use it (Feb 2013), it tried to turn on, blinked several times and died. Now I am awaiting a replacement unit (refurb). Do not buy this!
Summary: This is my third Magellan unit. The first two never gave me an issue. Purchased this model for me and my girl friend. It works sometimes but not all of the time. It gets lost. It takes you off a road then back onto the same road. I've loaded both map and software and the unit still doesn't work correctly. Check out the review for this product and you will see that alot of people have the same issue. Switching to Garmen and throwing these worthless units in the garbage.
