Summary: Nice features. On first trip froze and rebooted during normal driving. Slow route recalculation. Froze in POI function. Sent two emails to Magellan support with no response. Returned unit. Would not waste your money on this unit.
Summary: About an hour into our first drive with this unit, it turned itself off. We couldn't turn it back on. We stopped at a rest area and fiddled with the power switch and power cord for several minutes and it suddenly turned back on. We started driving again, but about 10 minutes later it turned off again. This time we were not able to get it to turn back on. It seemed to be a good product for the brief period of time it worked, but it obviously can't be relied on.
Feel comfortable driving in unfamiliar territory with a Magellan Roadmate!

Summary: This is my second portable Magellan GPS. I have been happy with the Company and therefore stayed with it. The lifetime maps and traffic updates is a great feature and lets me believe if I take care of the unit, I won't need to purchase another one for quite a while. The unit slides easily into the bracket. ( my previous unit was a little trickier). The power supply plug is part of the bracket (a plus in my mind).
Summary: I got this to put on my motorcycle to keep track of my current location while doing some charity volunteer bicycle escorting. Before putting it on the motorcycle I thought I'd play with it in my car. Glad I did so I could see how awful this thing is. I updated the operating software and the maps as soon as I got it. However it locks/freezes for 10 secomds or more routinely while selecting screens or trying to click a position on the map.
Summary: Let me start this review by saying that I have a Magellan Maestro, that I brought when Magellan was made in the USA by Magellan. This unit has been great and is still going strong. I brought the Roadmate 5045-LM even thought the reviews were not that great. I decided I would go ahead and get it especially after the price dropped to $109.00 with lifetime maps. After all I loved the Magellan firmware and software. I will admit that the maps themselves are not the best.
Summary: We had a 6 years old Magellan Roadmate. We love Magellan because it has the build in AAA. I bought this GPS for my 72 years old husband as a birthday present. He loves it!!! The screen is big, easy to see and easy to operate. This particular model had the life time update which can save us some monies in a long run.
good Gps ,good maps, super fast, easy to use, I love it

Summary: It is way faster GPS than older magellan I had. Its easy to use and everything is laid out well. I paid 80 bucks for this used one and its still like new! Took a trip from michigan to north carolina and it never let me down. it helps find food or gas if you need it to. I seen a similar model had good revews in consumer reports so I got this one and love it.
Summary: Pros: The "Only" Pro I can see in the gps was when the mailman drove away with it, to Return to Sender. Cons: If you have never heard the phrase "When Possible Make A Legal U-Turn" then you should get this gps, the possibilities are endless. This thing attempted to direct me miles out of the way to go 4 miles.
"It's more or less the same as my Roadmate 1470 model."
16 April 2012
Pros: This unit comes with Lifetime Map upgrades & Traffic Alerts versus having to purchase (at a high price) the map upgrades and a Traffic Link cable as I did with my Roadmate 1470. The 5" screen is nice & bright.
Cons: I'm disappointed that I can't even download a manual from Magellan's website that explains how to use the various features and settings. The User Handbook that came in the box only gives you a brief overview of the unit & totally lacks usage details.
