Summary: I recently purchased the Magellan 5045T-EU product for a trip on the East coast and in Germany. The east coast went reasonably well, not perfect, but Germany was a complete fiasco. I drove from Munich to Hohenschwangau to Berchtesgaden and then back to Munich Airport. From Munich to Hohenschwangau there were only couple of issues, the device told me to make a turn when there was nowhere to turn, but I could see the turn further up the road.
Summary: at first after i fulled charged it from the wall, i used it for the first time and it kept turning off. Also, it zooms in A LOT onto the map so it's hard to see your next turn. I think there's a setting that changes that though. I was just so used to my Tomtom that my brother and dad lost...which is why i had to buy a used one because my dad paid for what my tomtom was worth used. I think this will do the job and i'll eventually get used to it.
Summary: I love this gps . It is also portable so you can take it anywhere you wish to . The graphics are great , and it will send a alarm sound before your turn comes up so you know you will be jacking a turn . Great little tool .
Summary: We have a Magellan Maestro and felt that it was time to upgrade to a unit that tells you the name of the streets and distances. The RoadMate works basically the same way as the Maestro, which is why we decided to go with it. The only pitfall is the double process in updating the maps. Very happy so far.
Summary: I've been using this unit for quite a while now, and I have to say, I'm very satisfied with the product. The mount is easy to use. I love the fact that the cord installs into the mount, and then the unit is connected when you slide it onto the mount. Besides the large screen size, that's my favorite feature of this unit.
Summary: I really don't get the lower ratings for this item. I'm glad I ignored them and bought this anyway, as we were very pleased. Previously, we had a Radio Shack branded GPS that we HATED. It was awful, and the touch screen wasn't responsive. Just terrible. Anyway, we recently drove down to Disney World from Michigan and wanted something better. In the past we had used the GPS units in Hertz rental cars and really liked it, so I was determined to get something similar.
Summary: I owned other makes of GPS's and those not lasting long. I rented a car that had a complimentary Magellan in it and I liked much better the way that it provided advance turn advice, made corrections when a wrong turn was made which was frequent with me, etc. (None of that annoying "recalulating.") I purchased a previous version of the Magellan Roadmate very similar to the 5045-LM and used it for about two years.
