Summary: Why I gave it a five star rating is because I bought it for my husband and he loved it. We have the lifetime updates which is so nice. The navigation features are so easy to use. You can save places you have been to. We traveled in a fifth wheel and we never had a problem with finding our way with it. Restaurants, gas stations and tourist spots all are so accessible.
Summary: I needed a second GPS for the other vehicle. The new GPS was a refurbished unit available from Walmart and cost and lifetime maps were the principal reasons for purchasing this unit. My other unit was a TOMTOM XL IQ Routes (4+ years old). It's been a good GPS that met my needs however my main complaint is that it did not have lifetime maps and an updated map is not worth the price. The new GPS needed over 3 hrs to download all the updates.
Summary: Walmart delivered the GPS faster than expected, but that's where the good news ends. The refurbed unit did not work at all and I was forced to contact Magellan Technical support to get an RA number to return the unit. I called a total of 4 times, waited on hold for more than 30 minutes the first three times before hanging up. The 4th time I made it to a rep in 37 minutes. By 58 minutes I had a RA number and they were shipping me a replacement unit.
Summary: I fully charged the unit, registered it, and updated the maps and software via Magellan The first outing, the GPS took over 14 miles for it to acquire a signal (even with clear skies) . Even then the GPS had me travelling off road , and way back from my actual position, then it lost signal. All very difficult to talk around when your wife is sitting next to you asking whats going on! Yes, I set the GPS position and I did the hard reset before you ask.
Summary: Functionality - it does what is says it can do. 1. Traffic Updates - accurate and timely. 2. Map lifetime updates - you get 4 updates a year for life which is good 3. Tourbook - did not use it thoroughly ... due to the #1 issue (see below) 4. Graphics - OK - not earth shattering, not cutting edge 5. Lane guidance - OK - not cutting edge 6. Speed limit warning - Good and accurate My issues with the product: 1. Responsiveness - the interface is a tad slow.
Summary: This is my second Magellan Roadmate. My first one was a 4" version. This version has the ability to have downloads to get updates. I've always liked the ease of entering your destination addresses and the different options for different routes, etc. The mounting bracket is better than the old version. Not being used to the larger screen (1" larger doesn't seem like a big difference) I found that I was looking around it more not wanting my view to be blocked.
Summary: This is a nice little GPS, and the price was right, so I got it. The response time is not as good as I would like it to be when using the touch screen. I would also have liked to see a "Show Me An Alternate Route" button. Today, the exit from the highway was closed and I needed to use surface streets, and it was useless in helping me. It kept trying to send me back to the highway. Also, there should be a "Use Highways as Much as Possible" button.
Summary: some streets are missing e.g..Mackland road in douglasvjlle Georgia. Some destinations are off,not far anyway, but enough to have you looking for help by asking questions.however it has the ability to reroute you if you missed your major route without getting you into a panic mode.Overall this a fairly useful machine for the money.I will be buying a better magellan soon.
Summary: This was an excellent buy for the money, inasmuch as it performed the way you expected it to and the way more expensive models perform, directing and speaking to you from intersection to intersection how to get to where you are going. I used it on Thanksgiving Day to travel from Arlington, Viriginia to Culpeper, Virginia and on the return trip, approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes drive one way.
Summary: After reviewing all the different GPS unit's I found this one to have all the features that I was wanting especially free lifetime updates & traffic alerts. Very easy to use for older individuals like me and my Husband. Just plug it in and go. I would recommend this 5" unit to any one, and also buy it as a gift for someone wanting one.
