Summary: I've been waiting for years to finally buy a GPS for my vehicle. My son and daughter-in-law have had one for about 4 years, and from time to time I would borrow it to make trips with. I loved theirs. It's a Magellan Roadmate. (not sure the model number) When the 5045 came on the Gold Box deal a little while back, I made the leap and bought it. I'm disappointed because it's not nearly as intuitive as the older one.
Summary: It cost $200.00 to upgrade my map in the car, it is cheaper buying a new GPS instead with the lastest maps. My car doesn't allow me to make changes while it is moving, my partner can change my Magellan GPS settings for me while we are moving. The traffic report is really helful.
Summary: I've used the Magellan for about two months now with three cross-Midwest drives. The accuracy of the roads is not all that good in the more rural areas. But major cities and main highways are good. One thing on the POI interface is it allows you to add a POI to go to without losing the main trip info. The accuracy of the POI location is sometimes about 1 block off. Visibility is difficult in direct sunlight but I'm not surprised by this. Large screen size is a big plus.
Summary: We bought the Magellan Roadmate 5045 prior to departing on a trip to New York, where we drove a rental car to several places up state and on Long Island. The Magellan was a life saver. It made driving in unfamiliar territory a breeze. The clear, concise directions took us where we wanted to go easily, and literally right to the door. The one time we took a wrong exit, it immediately rerouted us and had us back on course.
Summary: Excellent service. We love this product and it has worked beautifully on trips. It is great to have help when you are driving in unfamiliar city, and congested streets as well as freeway exits.
Summary: This is my second Magellan GPS, I had a Magellan Maestro 4000 that only contained maps of the 48 U.S. States. Could not buy/update new maps on it...ie: Canada. Bought the Magellan 5045 Roadmate....What a Difference! Fast Response time, Fast Satellite aquistion, slimmer and smaller windshield mounting footprint. I had compared the 5045, 3065, and the 1700.
Summary: I purchased this item because I wanted the live traffic and also the step by step directions. The step by step directions is handy in that you can review the turns and directions in order that you can determine howthe GPS is navigating you. I have been very happy with this product in that it seems to be right on with traffic delays and arrival time. However, there is one major annoying feature that I absolute dislike.
Summary: I previously had a Magellan Maestro from 2006 but it recently was stolen. I loved the unit and wanted to replace it. When I found this RoadMate for under $200, I thought I would give it a try. I have several observations: 1. 2010 maps provide a lot better navigation experience than the old ones from 2006. 2. RoadMate has a comparatively huge display that is very appealing 3. RoadMate does not support voice command, while Maestro did/does.
Summary: If you are then this is the unit for you. It comes with North American and European maps. I needed some help with getting access to the European maps (select region). I used this in Spain and it make driving - especially in the cities, easy. Used it in Barcelona, Madrid and Seville. Highly recommend it - even if you are normally a Garmin user.
