Summary: Ordered for my wife because of the AAA feature. She had a Garvin Nuvi 265T and it was very reliable. We received this unit 12/3 and yesterday the unit was stuck on our home location, never moved and night mode. After searching for support info, very difficult to find it appears the only means of support is email. I emailed the problem and they finally replied back with the standard turn it off and back on...give me a break! Then if that doesn't work reload software..
Summary: Update 12/28/2010 I do not understand the low ratings that some reviewers have given this GPS. Zelda has always given us good directions no matter in what part of the U.S. we have been; and her response time for typed in addresses is only a few seconds . At this moment she is being upgraded with new maps at no extra charge. However, she has not given up the bottle. I am increasing the rating to FOUR STARS.
5045-LM Obsolete Maps: Changed to Tele-Atlas from NAVTEQ
Mark H Nittler, Amazon
3 December 2010
Summary: I purchased the Magellan Roadmate 5045-LM to replace a Magellan Roadmate 760 and a Magellan Maestro 3250 which have served me well. The new Tele-Atlas maps on the new 5045 were 15-20 years behind on road and street names in my area down in South Texas. I do not know if the maps have been updated in larger metropolitan areas. I checked with tech support and they confirmed that the installed maps in my brand new 5045 were Tele-Atlas and the latest U.S. edition available.
Summary: If you like having a drunk woman giving inaccurate and misleading directions to the wrong destination, this GPS is for you! This is my first non-hiking GPS and, as you probably have guessed by now, I am less than impressed. If my destination is on the other side of the road, the GPS routes me to the next turn signal to do a U-turn, instead of suggesting a left turn directly into the destination.
Summary: I bought this GPS on black friday for 109.99 which I thought was a steal. Just some of the things that went wrong or that I didn't like about the device. I ran routes for drives that I do on a frequent basis. One that should have only been an hour said it would take me an hour and forty-five minutes. It seemed to add atleast ten to fifteen minutes to whereever I was going. The routes looked right and I checked and made sure that I had it on the fastest route setting.
Summary: I just bought this for my dear old mom, who can't ever seem to remember how to drive to my house 2 hours away, in Boston. She lives in NH, and comes down to the "Big City" every 2-3 months, and I'm sick of spending 45 minutes on the phone holding her hand coming to my place everytime, so I figured I'd buy this for her.
Summary: I just tried out my Magellan 5045-LM for the first time and it was weird to say the least. The screen looks awesome, the interface is very nice and it would track you almost in real time as you move down the road (a nice improvement over my old Maestro which would jump from one place to the other instead of a nice continuous motion); BUT I found very annoying the fact that I took a route that I know VERY well, and which is the most direct route to the place I was going...
Wish i kept the slightly older cheaper Magellan models

Summary: I purchase 2 new Magellan Roadmate within last 4 months prior to this model Roadmate 5045LM,satisfy with the cheaper Roadmate 1424 4.3 inch screen basic, however reliable. Was happy with Magellan,so i sold it and move up to better and larger model Roadmate 3045LM with Lifetime map 4.7 inch didn't really have chance to use it on long trip, but little time i have it has no problems.
Summary: I've used "in-car" nav systems for the past 7-years and just replaced my Tom Tom with the Roadmate. It's easier to use, gives better directions and has more features than you will need. If you never intend to contact their Support group, it's a screaming buy. After reading the manual, I logged in and partially completed my profile. When I went back to finish it, I wasn't allowed to log in and as a result couldn't upload the latest maps.
Summary: Pros: Great visual layout, most of the most important frequently used options are easily accessible on the touch screen and easily allows you to move between 2D and 3D. The map moves for further viewing with a stroke of your finger. Turn warning bell is helpful to get your attention. Lane guidance works fantastic. Satelite is always linked up. Windshield mount works great and the unit slips out for portability easily. Automatic zoom at turn is nice.
