Over 40;000 miles of flawless use.

  • Summary: I've been driving around on a Magellan 860 for the last couple of years and have logged about 40,000 miles on it. As a last minute gift I bought the 5045 for my wife and then we went on college road trips for my daughter. The unit was flawless. My favorite features are the road sign prompts and the multiple destination trip sets. I bought two more for myself and my daughter when we finally get her a car. LOVE IT.

  • Summary: So this is a midrange gps navigator that has a large (thankfully non-reflective) display, it has a good response time, and is encased in a somewhat cheap case. The Good It tells you which side of the road your destination is (unlike TomTom which shows you a tiny arrow if you have a magnifying glass). The voice and the bell right before a turn are amazing, not annoying and the bell grabs your attention at the exact right time. Perfect. Turns on instantly.

Tap your heels together three times. And think to yourself, 'There's no place like Home...'

  • Summary: OR PICK YOUR FEATURES AND BUDGET AND THEN DECIDE UPDATED March 2013 I was using this new Magellan every day for four weeks back in 2010 when I first got it and then sporadically for several years because I needed it less frequently EXCEPT to get around heavy traffic. I frequently used it with another Garvin for comparison. I use it on familiar roads and new. I have no serious complaints, but have noticed trade-offs, especially at this price point.

Great traveling companion.

  • Summary: I bought the Magellan 5045-LM GPS mostly for its features with lifetime traffic and maps update. I love using it especially the one touch address feature and lane assist that make this unit so easy to use, it can also keep you moving with its AAA one touch feature.

Continue to be satisfied with the Magellan RoadMate 5045

  • Summary: I have had several GPS devices. Most have been Magellan, but one was Garmin. It too was more than satisfactory, but did not annunciate upon arrival or at turns. I find that a helpful addition in Magellan. The screen in the 5045 is quite large and easy to read during the day and at night. If you are in the market for a GPS, you will not be disappointed if you buy the 5045 model.

good mapping device for the price; sparse features

  • Summary: Pros: - free lifetime map updates - free traffic routing information - more routing methods than our Garmin devices (fastest, shortest, most freeway, least freeway) - great window mount Cons: - address mapping is limited compared to Garmin - lack of features Let me preface that our family is a huge believer in GPS devices. For our family, we have 5 Garmin devices, 2 Magellan, and 1 TomTom.

Before you get on the Garmin bandwagon......

JG, Amazon
7 April 2011
  • Summary: If you have been a longtime Magellan user you may want to consider a few things before getting on the Garmin bandwagon. I want to make it very clear that this isn't going to be a review to bash the Garmin 1450LMT, the particular unit I bought and returned, but more of comparison. Let's start off by getting what Magellan users have known from the very beginning about Magellan's issues out of the way.

  • Summary: Just received the GPS and took it out of the box. Plugged it in to my car and was amazed at how large the display is. I shouldn't have any trouble viewing the screen. Will try to use it in the next day or two.

Sticky film left over from protective screen cover

Doc J, Amazon
27 March 2011
  • Summary: Over the years I have had nothing but good luck with Magellan Products. Recently I purched 2 Magellan Roadmate 5045-LM. The first one that arrived had no problems and worked perfectly. The second unit arrived and when I removed the protective cover from the screen a tacky adhesive mess was left behind. Contacted Magelland and was told to clean gently with a damp cloth. All that happened is screen became more tacky. Contacted Amazon and recieved replacement unit next day.
