Summary: The Magellan 5045 is a very nice GPS unit. I've had two other GPS units from other manufacturers and while both of them were decent this one is the best I've used. Pros: The 5 inch screen is nice, quite bright and very easy to read. The voice while somewhat electronic is easy to understand. This unit finds its' location on start up far faster than the other 2 units I used before. I like the fact that it offers 4 different routing options.
Summary: Pros: -Fast start-up/shutdown times. -Larger screen makes it easier to use for both right or left hand positions. -Battery charge lasts surprisingly long. Can turn it on/off for up to 4 days after full charge. -Free lifetime updates on the LM model. -Real-time traffic alerts gives you more than 5 miles heads-up. -Lane assist is accurate on most major highways. -Is portable, and even has walking directions for almost all destinations. Cons: -No physical volume control.

Summary: We bought this unit to replace our Garmin GPS. We had a Magellan many years ago, and like its look and feel. We chose this Magellan because it shows you how the GPS will guide you by offering road to road directions to the destination. We returned it because the unit does not turn on each time. The problem is that the plug of the power cord is not properly designed - sometimes it works and sometimes not.
Summary: I did not buy this model, and here is why: If you visit the magellan website, this product is listed at 219.99, so someone please explain the $60.00 mark-up in price to $279.99! Amazon is supposed to have deals, not inflated prices. Very unhappy about this since it seems like a decent product.
Summary: Before I begin this review - let me say that I've owned and operated a TomTom, Garmin, and a Pharos GPS unit, so when I say the Magellan 5045-LM is the best GPS I've owned - that means something. First of all - right out of the package - I noticed how big and clear the screen is. I drive a Scion Xb, not exactly a large car, but I still wanted a GPS that showed more data than a 3.5" or a 4.3". The Magellan's 5.0" screen is seriously impressive.
Summary: I like Magellan Roadmate 5045 Automotive GPS Receiver because for the first time using this device I'm able to get to my destination on time. Usually, I'm afraid to go long distant or go to a new place on my car in anticipating of getting lost into a wrong direction. With GPS is liked eye opener that gives me confidence travel anywhere I wanted to go.
Summary: I have owned this unit @ 90days now and it has yet to get me to the right destination. the first trip I used it for was back in june 2011 . My wife,brother-inlaw,sister-inlaw,and I made a trip to Nags Head NC. this is about 150 miles from my home. the unit got us to Nags Head ok, but the little voice said "You have arrived" and started waving the checkered flag two blocks before we got to the hotel where we were staying. We laughed and thought maybe this was just a fluke.
Summary: What a great deal. I got this model with lifetime map & traffic updates for less than the cost of a single map update for my previous model,(Magellan Maestro)plus it has a larger screen. I'm very pleased with this product so far.
