Summary: I just bought this for my dear old mom, who can't ever seem to remember how to drive to my house 2 hours away, in Boston. She lives in NH, and comes down to the "Big City" every 2-3 months, and I'm sick of spending 45 minutes on the phone holding her hand coming to my place everytime, so I figured...
Summary: I just tried out my Magellan 5045-LM for the first time and it was weird to say the least. The screen looks awesome, the interface is very nice and it would track you almost in real time as you move down the road (a nice improvement over my old Maestro which would jump from one place to the other...
Wish i kept the slightly older cheaper Magellan models

Summary: I purchase 2 new Magellan Roadmate within last 4 months prior to this model Roadmate 5045LM,satisfy with the cheaper Roadmate 1424 4.3 inch screen basic, however reliable. Was happy with Magellan,so i sold it and move up to better and larger model Roadmate 3045LM with Lifetime map 4.7 inch didn't...
Summary: I've used "in-car" nav systems for the past 7-years and just replaced my Tom Tom with the Roadmate. It's easier to use, gives better directions and has more features than you will need. If you never intend to contact their Support group, it's a screaming buy.
Summary: Pros: Great visual layout, most of the most important frequently used options are easily accessible on the touch screen and easily allows you to move between 2D and 3D. The map moves for further viewing with a stroke of your finger. Turn warning bell is helpful to get your attention.
Tap your heels together three times. And think to yourself, 'There's no place like Home...'

Summary: OR PICK YOUR FEATURES AND BUDGET AND THEN DECIDE UPDATED March 2013 I was using this new Magellan every day for four weeks back in 2010 when I first got it and then sporadically for several years because I needed it less frequently EXCEPT to get around heavy traffic.
Summary: I have had many GPS's looking for the perfect GPS, none exists but this Magellan comes close even thought its semi bare bones, its a GPS and nothing more than a GPS. The lane assist features is what I look for in a GPS and this one with highway signs with arrows is OK but my Tom Tom with the big...
Summary: The magellan 5045 is a nicely built unit with a lot of great features. However, the software which provides new maps called "Content Manager" is the worst piece of mainstream consumer software I've had the displeasure to encounter in years. It is horrible.
Summary: Initially, I was pleased with my 5045 LM. Little quirks here and there that differed from my Garmins and from the GPS on my Android phone. Biggest thing at first was its unreliability in displaying traffic notices.
Summary: Don't buy Magellan if you have Windows XP and you ever plan on upgrading the maps and software. I have spent over 6 hours trying to install Magellan's content manager. Content manager needs to have .net framework installed first. I had .net V1.1 installed, and Content Manager did not work.
