Summary: The Roadmate 5045 LM worked pretty well until I attempted to get the first map update. I tepeatedly followed the instructions to the letter, but now the unit hangs on the startup screen. So far, there has been no response from Magellen "support" and based on similar reviews I'm not holding my breath. Magellen should rename this Electronic Brick.
Summary: I don't know how long this unit has been out but there are bugs that even Magellan has not yet fixed. Map updates and program updates can't be executed because the unit is not always loaded properly into the computer. I had to return it to Magellan to update the program and maps. Magellan promised to have a fix out soon. I miss the 3-D map feature found in other models.
Summary: This Magellan 4045-LM is the best GPS with the most useful options I have found on the market. I have tried Garmin & Tom Tom as well. But this Magellan Road-Mate has all the most useful options for highway travel I have tried. Among other helpful options (like lifetime maps included), the 3D screen image can bet set and then remain at whatever scale one wishes. I do wish the purchase included a 110 volt power supply attachment.
Summary: I bought the Magellan RoadMate 5045-LM GPS out of nasessity because my old Magellan Maestro 4370 had died on me when I was on my way to pick up a large settlement for the law firm I work for and God forbidd, gotten lost. I also bought it for the free life time Maps. My problem I mostly incounter with Gps's I've owned was that after a while the model is replaced by a better model and the company that producese it no longer provide map updates for it.
Summary: As someone who owns an Android phone with Google Navigation I thought my owning a stand alone GPS days were over simply because, well, I have a GPS on my phone for free so who needs to buy one now. Well recently my job now requires me to drive up to the northern suburbs of Chicago regularly as well as parts of Chicago which I am not all that familiar with.
Summary: This was my third Magellan and probably my last, it like the others just died shortly after 1 year. So what is the point of lifetime maps and traffic. During the time I have gone through these three Magellans my wife's Garmin has continued to operate with no problems. If you are looking to get a reliable unit don't look here.
Summary: We've had many GPS devices in the past and always keep coming back to this one. The bell that lets you know without looking that you're on the right path with turns and direction is invaluable. Allows us to know without taking eyes off the road that we're following the directions correctly. Easy to program, easy to see, just plain easy!!
Summary: I have 3 Magellan units with FREE LIFETIME Map Updates. I have 2 5045LMs and 1 5145TLM. The only problem is, Magellan has only released 1 (ONE) map update in the last 8 months in comparison to my Garmin which has received 1 Free Map Update every 3 months. Magellan recently switched to TeleAtlas and in an e-mail communication in December, Magellan Tech Supprt told me that they had released v45 to replace v43 maps which were released in June 2011, but their release had...
Summary: When My friend and I take short ROAD TRIPS and we sometimes get lost. The first time I used it guess what. No more U turns or stopping for directions. I saves a lot of frustration. And the traffic updates worked great.
