Summary: Overall I like my Magellan 3050T as a roduct. It has saved me a lot of time & gas in finding addresses and routing around traffic. I recommended it to everyone, that is until I had to deal with tech support to get an out-of-date map upgrade. Despite all of the promises, they don't call back, they'll escalate to supervisors who don't exist or don't care, and no matter how much data you give to Navteq about errata in the maps Magellan devices use, the updates and POI...
Magellan 3050T - Good GPS, reasonable mapsm, poor traffic warning system

Summary: I have owned this since Christmas. I also had a problem with a zoom button sticking, but got an exchange unit easily, that works very well. It was easy to set up and use. I use this mainly in the NW, from OR anf WA to BC Canada. I have also taken it on business trips to MA, TN, CA, CT. It works very well in urban areas, but the map can be inaccurate or even misleading in rural areas. It is no good for traveling around logging roads in Oregon.
Summary: We use our RoadMate 3050T on our motorcycle, attached to the handlebars with a "Ram" mount designed to hold the Roadmate. I didn't really trust it at first because the RoadMate cradle was just plastic but after over 7000 miles of bumps it seems as secure as when we first put it on. Ram mounts are great and they make them for cars as well, something you might consider if you can't use the suction cup mounting setup included with the 3050T.
Summary: Before purchasing the 3050T, I ran some others GPS devices thru their paces. I've had a Palm based system and a laptop based system, plus I bought a 2000T just prior to purchasing this one. The Palm based unit was accurate and had good maps, but I didn't like having to load which maps I might need prior to a trip; I just wanted to go. Plus the Palm system lacked enough horsepower for a quick re-route.
Summary: I rarely give out a 5*, the Magellan 3050T does every thing it promises. It is a bit slow when you first turn it on and it has difficulty locating the satellites inside buildings or under a "heavy" cover/shade. Once it gets going, the signals are strong and re-routing is quick. Although it does not have TTS (text to speech), the verbal guidance is good and I kind of prefer it over TTS because I won't be distracted to look for street signs.
Summary: This is the only nav sytem I've owned so I can't compare it to anything, but it works great for what I used it for. Ofcourse there are some quirky directions it gives you sometimes, but I think that is typical of these systems and they all do it from time to time. No problems here for me.
Summary: I BOUGHT THIS AFTER CONSUMER REPORTS RATED THIS ONE THE BEST. WE USED IT A COUPLE OF TIMES AND IT WORKS AS ADVERTISED. IT IS PRETTY EASY TO SET UP AND USE. I HAVE NOT PUT IT THROUGH ALL OF ITS PACES WITH THE TRAFFIC KIT BUT THE PART I HAVE USED SO FAR HAS DONE OK. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR A GPS. SYSTEM. THE AMAZON DEALER I PURCHASED THIS FROM WAS VERY HELPFULL AND FAST SERVICE IN DELIVERY.
Summary: I got the 3050T for Christmas and it worked great right out of the box. However, after I upgraded the software I had a lot of difficulty connecting to GPS satellites and then it suddenly stopped connecting. I worked with tech support one time and got the unit working again. Then I had a problem on a weekend and there wasn't any support available but I used the same technique and could not get the unit to function again.
Summary: I used my RoadMate 3050T the day I received it for a business trip. It was easy to program and use. I left early as I usually do for business trips only to find out I didn't have to. It was not only a clear route, but I was also rerouted because of construction along the way. A great navigator. Glad I made the purchase.
