A map in the lap would be faster and more accurate than this POS.

Bike Dad "Bike Dad", Amazon
1 April 2014
  • Summary: This GPS is the slowest update I have ever experienced and I go back to the GPS units that read in degrees, minutes and seconds! The batteries are good for a total of maybe 10 minutes when fully charged. Not a problem as it can stay plugged in, but here is the trouble. The unit is so slow that I am well past my turn before the system can update and advise me where to turn, (think U-turn after U-turn)..

WILL NOT PROGRAM FOR NATIONAL PARKS AND STATE AND FEDERAL HIGHWAY ADDRESSES

wmjbutler "Just Me", Amazon
18 September 2013
  • Summary: Even with Magellan Customer Support helping, this device will not program destinations for National Parks, and addresses such as State Highway, Interstates, Routes, etc. For example, I tried to program it for RED FEATHER LODGE, 300 State Route 64, Tusayan, AZ 86023, and while Magellan concedes that this is a legitimate address, they can't program the device to get there. The same thing happened with, Zion Park Lodge, 1 Zion Lodge, Springdale, UT 84767.

  • Summary: Was not happy with this product. In fact, I have returned it. I was on the interstate and it was giving me wrong instructions, at least one time. Good thing I knew they were incorrect. Also questioned some of the other instructions. I did get lost (not the fault of GPS) and called my son for instructions which I was following and it kept telling me to make "U" turns and I knew I was on the proper route.

Do not buy from Magellan

Mark J. Heulitt, MD, Amazon
19 September 2012
  • Summary: I bought this unit about 7 months ago. My first unit did not function and the end seller quickly replaced it. But recently my unit has been powering down. It was obvious an issue with the charger. I have both this unit and the backup camera and it was installed by Best Buy professionally.

  • Summary: PRODUCT WAS USED!!! Had animal hair in box . Had been programed to a home address in NY city. Box and unit labled as 1700lm . serial numbers match, but model number in software data on unit shown to be 1700UM. Note UM does not have lifetime updates. I will take this up with Magellan. Purchased as a new unit not a used or referbished.

Size is the only good thing.

culturedfarmboy, CNET

  • Summary: My house is in a subdivision that has been around for 6 years. All I get are long and lat co-ord when I tell it to remember my home address. My in-laws house shows up as an address inside an amusement park (cause it has village in the name - no its not a real village.
  • Pros: Size, mount I found sturdy, when set to max volume its very clear.
  • Cons: Map accuracy is horrendous. There must be errors in their database for posted speedlimits resulting in forcing routes to stay on highways much longer. Updates are way behind. Battery life is way to short. Timers to autoshut off are too short too.

JUNK DO NOT BUY

drh, Amazon
23 April 2012
  • Summary: The new one I received would not update maps so after THREE HOURS on the telephone they decided the new one was defective and I should return it and it would be replaced. I had to pay the shipping charges to get it back to them even though it was not my fault a new product was defective. To add insult to injury I get back a "used refurbished" one.
