Summary: Magellan GPS is "OK". It beats having nothing. I purchased their top end unit after having great success with Magellan GPS in my Hertz rentals. Don't know why exactly, but there is almost no similarity between the consumer and commercial lines. Navigation is a B+ on a generous day. Can't see the screen in the daylight. Charges for map updats are too expensive.
Summary: i had Magellan before and it was earlier virgin it worked very will with me, i thought this one will be better and faster with more tech on it, but i was surprised that it is very slow !! it takes long time to figure where am i, and very slow on updating route which you need it the most if you pass the correct street which will have you to stop and wait for the new directions !!!! it doesn't have that voice command or it just never work with me like the older virgin !!
Cheaply Made, Broken Charger, Traffic Link Rarely Works
SK "The higher I go, the more crooked it beco..., Amazon
11 July 2011
Summary: After a week of having this GPS I wish I went with my initial instincts and purchased another Garmin. The lure of the Traffic Link got me to buy this when it was on sale at $99 bucks. The head on the charger (metal part with internal spring set) broke after a week's use and I spent an hour on the phone with a guy from another country at Magellan's customer service explaining what happened and that I just bought the darn thing a week ago.
Summary: SUMMARY OF REVIEW: Great features, great price but I went through two of these GPS units and they both QUIT for no good reason and NEVER TURNED ON AGAIN. They also had other issues. Read on... After looking at several different GPS models, I decided to go with this one because of its Traffic Link and features, plus the price was right. Upon recieving it, I was pretty satisfied--I used it the very next day in my car and was happy with my purchase.
Richard F. Eggleton "Stuck in Traffic in LA", Amazon
22 April 2011
Summary: Good thing Amazon provides a 30 day return policy. I bought this unit because I had great experiences with my 5 year old subscription based Magellan GPS. But right out of the box the Traffic Link did not work. I called Magellan's tech support to figure out the problem. After 90 minutes of trying to explain to someone across the globe that traffic coverage should be pretty solid in Los Angeles and I was getting no signal - only the message "acquiring signal" they agreed...
Summary: My first navigator was a tomtom one which I had for 2 years. I was very happy with its overall function but was looking for an upgrade (bigger screen, etc). I got this Magellan based on consumer reports recs and have not been happy with it. It basically started going haywire as it approached its one year birthday -- the screen would freeze up, the keys stopped responding to my touch. Lately, it just shuts down several times a day.
Summary: I purchased the Magellan 1445T to replace a Garmin 265wt The Garmin turned out to be a very disappointing purchase. It failed to find the first address entry and it also was not able to display the streets immediately surrounding this address either. Both of these actions, it turned out, were available on my old 2007 TomTom One with original maps In addition, the Garmin selected torturous routes between Seattle and my house on Whidbey Island.
Summary: When I purchased the Magellan 1445T I did not see anywhere in the information about receiving unwanted advertisements on my GPS. I do not want to receive this SPAM when I use my GPS, if this is required then Magellan should tell you up front about this feature that can not be turned off. I assume these advertisers are paying to have their advertisements show up on your screen. Mine kept advertising "SEARS" and "Olive Garden".
