Summary: Got this for Christmas 2010, it got in a software loop and would not work about October 2011, called and they said it was out of warranty since it was Manufactured over a year ago. Fortunately Costco was able to get me a record of the purchase and so sent it in and got a refurbished unit (as good as new that I could see).
Summary: So much to tell, this is a shortened synopsis. This is my second GPS, so I compare it's operation to the previous units. I "tested" the 1445T for 6 months before purchasing map updates. Basically the unit worked*, then I made the mistake of paying for the Lifetime Map Upgrade Subscription. At the time the new maps were installed there was also a software update applied, I have no idea which could be the problem. Ever since then, it's been downhill.
Summary: I bought a Magellan last year. Right before the warranty expired the map screen froze at a particular location. My brother had also bought the same model and the screen froze on him within the same month. I sent it to the company and they sent us a "new" Magellan gps. Two months later, the same problem occurred. Three Magellans with the same problem. I would have serious doubts about buying another Magellan.
Summary: I am an avid Magellan user. I have a business in which I need to be navigated to different locations everyday, and have bought at least 2 Magellan GPS' in the past. I cracked the screen on my last one, and needed a new one, and decided to try Amazon to purchase my next one. (I am also an avid Amazon user.) This GPS was purchased for a cheaper price, SUPPOSEDLY not used or refurbished, brand new, and in the box.
Summary: Bought this on sale for $99. What a great deal! The first time I turned it on it seemed great. But it would never power up again. Here I am an owner for only 5 hours and it will not turn on. Piece of junk. Back to Garmin....
