Summary: I bought one of these units several years ago for my wife at Best Buy. It was a great unit and we loved the larger screen. I tried to update the maps yesterday as the ones on the unit are several years old. The web site shows a 2010 update, but Magellan customer service says the updates are no longer available. I was offered the opportunity to trade the unit in on newer models and of course adde the necessary dollars and shipping.
Summary: I found this navigator to be nearly flawless. I prefer a mobile unit rather than a dash mounted unit and this works perfectly for me. When traveling I carry it and plug it into my rental car. The 5" screen size is perfect. The signal is solid unless I am in a tunnel. The only negative issue is that the internal battery initially did not hold its charge for very long and now does not hold it at all which means it will not function unless it is attached to a 12V supply.
Summary: This is one of the worst GPS I have ever used. I had a Tom Tom that I loved but it shorted out. I was able to return the Tom Tom because I had it for less than 60 days. Rather than run into the same problem with another Tom Tom, I opted to get the Maestro. This GPS is terrible. It is not intuitive. It gets fixated on a route and will not deviate. It can take 5 minutes to calculate the route.
Summary: These products look nice and seem to have a lot of features and they make you all kinds of promises about how accurate they are and how the maps are updated every two years. Don't believe a word of it. These things are junk and Magellan will leave you high and dry. The routing is a joke. I've wasted so much time following these directions only to find out there was a much easier, quicker way. It's taken me in a complete circle for no apparent reason.
Summary: I had this GPS for a little over a year. It worked absolutely perfect and was used on literally a daily basis over that year. However, after the 1 year warrenty was up (as if on cue) it suddenly just "died!" It was not dropped, scratched, exposed to weather elements or anything!!! It just simply went blank and quit working.
Don't buy this one, Try newer design with better Power connector
Joe Joe, Amazon
15 November 2010
Summary: The unit works good, but the 12 VDC power connector/port is flimsy - pooly designed. The fact that the FM antenna connector (of the same size as the DC connector) are located next to each makes it confusing for a novice as to which one to plug the power cord to. The power connector on the device broke after using it a few times during the year. Once it was broken, I could not power up the device. what good is a GPS if I cannot power it up.
Summary: The first unit I received was defective and true to what I've come to expect from Amazon, it was quickly replaced. The operation is straightforward and easy to learn, which is a good thing since the documentation is sparse. The map included was outdated, and in several instances, the device led me on a round about way of getting there.
Summary: Bought it as a refurbished unit from Tiger Direct. Very glad I bought the service contract for it too, since it was a refurb unit. Bought it as a Christmas gift for my wife and tried it out on a 500 mile trip and it worked great. Then I ordered the 2010 map update from Magellan that came free (within 30 days of new unit) and installed the memory chip. Followed all the instructions. The unit locked up once, then started working after reset.
