I should have taken my Garmin

Captain Bin, Amazon
14 August 2010
  • Summary: The Magellan 4700 has a lot of neat features which my older Garmin did not have, but at least the Garmin didn't continually mistake driveways for state highways. Obviously the map data base is lacking in accuracy. But, the 4700 has a nice feature of displaying the overhead freeway signs and coloring the correct ones a different shade of green.

  • Pros: Large 4.7? screen Auto-completion when entering addresses Padded skin to protect while not in use included OneTouch shortcut buttons very useful Side of the Road announcing for your destination a plus
  • Cons: I had a list of approx 18 items that were very substandard and gltchy with this model but 250 characters doesn't even come close to how many CONS I found with this unit after using it for 6 months

"Good usability"

sfensler, CNET
19 June 2010
  • Pros: Good visual display Good warning before the turn Maps the best way On map POI's are cool Phone connects but no address book. LG Cu405
  • Cons: Using the latest update (2.20) and the JUNE 2010 MAP: a test on sortest an fastest on a known 20 mile route produces values that should be the opposite. Thus the 3 out of 5 starts

Great routing, but can't see or hear it

AlexCartermom, Amazon
22 September 2009
  • Summary: We purchased this after returning a Garmin 755T (which I also reviewed) because we had terrible routing issues with that unit. We then took the same test trip with the Magellan that we took with the Garmin to Myrtle Beach. The Magellan had perfect routing on every trip we took whether it was for hundreds of miles or just ten miles. The route was consistent and took us the fastest way each time.
