Summary: The Magellan 4700 has a lot of neat features which my older Garmin did not have, but at least the Garmin didn't continually mistake driveways for state highways. Obviously the map data base is lacking in accuracy. But, the 4700 has a nice feature of displaying the overhead freeway signs and coloring the correct ones a different shade of green.
Summary: I just switched from Garmin because my Garmin 1490T would reboot constantly, stutter badly when speaking and the keyboard was slow and unresponsive. That said the Garmin is light years ahead of this unit in terms of features. For example on the Garmin I can choose a 3D map that stays on all the time, choose a different voice / language, a different vehicle icon and the list goes on and on. It's very customizable whereas this unit is not.
Summary: We purchased this after returning a Garmin 755T (which I also reviewed) because we had terrible routing issues with that unit. We then took the same test trip with the Magellan that we took with the Garmin to Myrtle Beach. The Magellan had perfect routing on every trip we took whether it was for hundreds of miles or just ten miles. The route was consistent and took us the fastest way each time.
