Magellan Maestro 3100: Obviously an entry level GPS

livewire_13, epinions.com
16 December 2008
  • Summary: Let me make this clear: I only recommend this if you need a cheap, mildly effective GPS to get you there. You can do better for a little more.
  • Pros: it's a GPS
  • Cons: lengthy calibration periods, sometimes poor directions, lack of features, unresponsive touch screen, battery life

Great Value!

J. Martinez, Amazon
4 December 2007
  • Summary: Bought mine on Black Friday special what a deal $139.00. Just happy to pay so little that I didn't care that it was a basic model. Overall, I am very happy with the unit. One problem I had is it seemed prone to lockup or resets without warning it happened a couple of times to me otherwise I would have given it a 5 star instead of 3. Seems to happen mainly in a low battery situation so it might be just an operational problem rather then a software/hardware problem.

5-star for Amazon 2-star for Maestro 3100

P. Yeh "petopc", Amazon
24 November 2007
  • Summary: I give Amazon shopping experience 5-star for (1) Fast FREE shipping (3 business days)with confirmation and tracking. (2) Lowest price at time of purchasing ($168 one week prior to Thanksgiving). (3) No question asked return. 2-star to Maestro 3100 for (1) As some reviewers stated: It does "freeze" when turned on for several times during 5-day usage. (2) Old database (no upgrade/update available) and seemingly highways- oriented.

consider about it before buying~

X. Ma, Amazon
21 November 2007
  • Summary: This is my 3rd time to buy this product, same model. But, I have to say, I'm so DISsatisfied this time. I bought the 1st one for my aunt, 2nd one for my friend, and I even used those in their cars by myself. I felt it's pretty good and not expensive, so I bought one for myself recently after I bought my current car. But this time, when it's for me, the little thing was malfunctioning within a week of purchase.

Good Value but limited POIs

Casey, Amazon
19 November 2007
  • Summary: At less than $200 I find this a very good value if you intend to use it to navigate to known addresses, but inadequate if you intend to use it to find local Points of Interest. The unit performed perfectly out of the box, and has a large, easy to see screen. Navigation to pre-programmed street addresses entered by me was flawless. Many reviews comment on the limited POI file, and they are indeed very skimpy.

  • Summary: This product is fantastic. I have no problems with it. It quickly recalculates if I miss a turn and has never given me bad directions. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a GPS system.

The Maestro 3100

Amazon Customer, Amazon
6 August 2007
  • Summary: I bought this Maestro 3100 due to a really reasonable price, took it on a trip and returned it to Amazon the next day. We could get used to it not telling us street names (after all the price certainly is just entry level), but the real problem was that we couldn't hear what she had to say and with the a/c and radio on, we missed several turns. The volume was up to the max and we still had trouble hearing the instructions.
