GPS purchase

cwolv2, Ebay
10 November 2009
  • Summary: Granted, it gets me where I want to be, but takes me clear across the map until I do get there. I always choose the fastest time option and it will litterally drag me along every scenic route. It took me 9 hours to make a 5 hour trip, and 5 hours to make a 3 1/2 hour trip... Plus, I have to wiggle the 12V charger or else the GPS plugged in will say the battery's dying. Not my favorite purchase..

Piece of Crap

pitchperfect, Amazon
24 October 2009
  • Summary: My Magellan Maestro died about a month ago and I needed to go on a long trip out of state. I saw that this one was a whole lot cheaper but still the same brand so I went ahead and bought it. BIG MISTAKE. This model is much more cheaply made than my last and was completely unacceptable. Let me see if I can remember everything that was wrong with it. 1) The processor is w a y t o o s l o w.

Magellan Maestro 3100

skelton_j1982pmsv, Ebay

  • Summary: I personally don't like the magellan Maestro 3100. I never had a problem receiving satellite signals. But, this thing is worthless in the city (St.Louis). The signals bounce all over the buildings and will suddenly re-route you because it thinks your on the next block over. Also, I do a lot of random road trips on curvy backroads, they never show up. Its kind of nice to know when the next sharp curve is coming up if your on unfamiliar roads.

GPS still in the box

Overstock
8 January 2008
  • Summary: Unable to figure out how to attach. Thought I was buying a convertible and could transfer between 2 cars. Haven't been able to figure out how to attach to 1 car. CD Rom is not helpful. Still have it in box. No customer service to contact that I know of.

DO NOT buy Magellan

Andrew R. Tuthill, Amazon
17 December 2007
  • Summary: When returning a unit under warranty, they replaced it with a cheap model. Their customer service is the worst!! The 3050's are unrepairable so they replace them with cheap models. I will never use a Magellan product again. They will not return calls as promised. You'll be sorry...

Magellan 3100

J. Jew, Amazon
11 December 2007
  • Summary: DONT BUY MAGELLAN! Totally unreliable, died when I needed it during a trip in Florida. The Call support center has been outsourced to the Phillipines! I had to send the dead unit to Texas. They have had it for almost one month, cannot fix it and do not have a replacement to ship to me. So I continue to wait in limbo. Will never buy a Magellan again or recommend it to anyone.

Was good for about 30 days

Rebecca Cat "Patient Advocate", Amazon
29 November 2007
  • Summary: This is my 3rd GPS, I've had a TomTom & Garmin also. I thought this was better (more accurate) with a few exceptions, such as it doesn't remember your own city, so you have to hand type it in every time and a few other things in setting up for a trip are not as easy as the other 2 models. It was accurate until it gave out in the middle of a trip (in the middle of nowhere) around 9PM. Thankfully I had an atlas w/ me so we could find the rest of the way.

Terrible Navigation! Avoid at all costs!

Asher R. Snyder, Amazon
24 November 2007
  • Summary: This past Black Friday, I picked up this navigation at Staples in Queens. I had driven to the Staples using Tom Tom on my PocketPC, but decided to test out the Maestro 3100 driving back. What transpired driving back from the Staples to the city would ultimately lead me to return the Maestro 3100 later that day. At first glance all appears well. It turns on quickly, and receives the satellite information, and then problems arise.

Stay away from Magellan

D. Brown, Amazon
27 September 2007
  • Summary: Buyer Beware! Good luck getting any reasonable customer service from these people. I purchase the 3000T less than one year ago and also subscribed to their Traffic Master service. After a few months, the Traffic Kit - which powers the unit and works as an antenna for the traffic service - stopped working. After repeated emails and phone calls, I can't get them to replace the unit (which they acknowledge is defective) nor will they cancel or suspend the subscription.
