Best value for the $ and unbelieveably easy to use! ... ignore the unfair reviews
28 March 2014
Summary: PROs: Absolutely a breeze, super simple to use and very intuitive. Rugged. Best bang for the buck hands down. Easy to customize the screen with the data you want to see (elevation, distance to destination, etc.
Summary: The interface is a little complicated and there are some minor quirks with the firmware that Magellan could fix but haven't as of yet, but the worst shortcoming to me is the poor visibility in bright sunlight.
Summary: Nothing jumps out as outstanding. System is slow, touch screen is quirky, and not all that intuitive. GeoCaching downloading is awkward but that may be Geocaching.com - my found caches don't show up as found. My Iphone works better (when I can triangulate with cell coverage).
Summary: Even after firmware update 6.33 the electronic compass still freezes up. I sent the unit back for a refund and ordered a Garmin Oregon 550T. I liked all of the other features mentioned on the other reviews of the 710 but there should be no glaring bugs in their top of the line unit and the customer...
Summary: Your product is only as good as you are able to stand behind it! I am a company owner and i believe that it is my job to do anything i can to make a customer happy, Well Magellan doesn't think the same way. I bought my first Explorist 710 and had it 2 months when it got stolen out of my truck.
Summary: I am very pleased with the proformance and easy to use as long as you take the time to read the manual. the camera i have set it on the highest setting and it takes a great pic. I use it for some geocaching and its right on the dime. I am so happy I bought this one. well worth the money Pete
Unit says batteries are dead when they work in other devices
James Powers, Amazon
17 September 2012
Summary: I've tried every type of battery in this unit -- regular, heavy duty, lithium and rechargeable. In each case, the two AA batteries are 90% drained within an hour or two. I cannot recommend this unit for anyone for this reason. This is an update.
Summary: I am writing this as a retired test engineer with a GPS background, so I have time to mess around with my GPS and the experience to understand what I am doing with it. I have owned a Explorist 610 and a 710.
Summary: This is a DEFECTIVE product. Do NOT BUY or you will be sorry. The touch screen is maddening to use and even after several software updates the problem remains. It is a HARDWARE defect with the touch screen, not a software defect.
