Not necessary like pagers in the past!

Isaac A., Amazon

  • Summary: A Great navigational system for hiking and/ or marine traveling, but not really for cars. I believe it is now outdated so there is probably better options out there or an app even on your phone!

Magellan Exp 600

  • Summary: I like the explorist gps. I have owned one before and am familiar with them and comfortable. I am not sure if I like the rechargable battery or replaceable batteries. I was lost once a few years back and spent the night out in subfreezing weather. Never again! The explorist is a good fit for me.

Magellan eXplorist 600 Handheld GPS

william C. McQuiston, Amazon

  • Summary: After having bought the Explorist 200 and 500 and looking for the best in the series of Explorist's from Magellan, I purchased the Explorist 600. I quickly fell in love with it. From the feel and use I could tell the 600 was for me. Just screwing on the adapter to the back to charge the battery just felt a little industrial as compared to the 500. I had several 500's and I will tell you the 600 was quicker and better built.

  • Summary: I have had this for some years now (about 2 months after it was 1st released), no problems, I never had to call CS, so I can't comment on that. I have gotten is wet, snowed on, in cool weather (20's), hot weather (over 105) & dropped it a few times. Uploading maps, using Topo 3d, goes better when putting the SD into the SD card reader on my computer (O/S XP pro), I don't like having to take out the battery to get to the SD card As time has gone by the battery seem to...

  • Summary: I own both the Explorist 600 and Garmin 60CSX. It would be great if I could combine the two. Although both Magellan and Garmin have newer, more expensive models out, the new units have their own problems so I have not been tempted to upgrade. As far as the Explorist, there are many things that I like about it: It is a nice, compact device which fits perfectly into my hands -- it is easy to take when traveling in foreign lands.

I think I made the right choice

Apex shopper, Amazon

  • Summary: I gave my son a Garmin 60C for Christmas last year. Tinkered with it for a couple of days before handing it over. It worked well. Of course I wanted one for myself, but cash is cash, so I've been putting it off. (Side note - I wanted to borrow it for a trip this past spring, and when they went to get it, it had been stolen from their car map-pocket. It seems these are high-theft items; keep'em on a short leash.
