Summary: i have owned the explorist 600 for over 5 years. I am a an avid hunter and walk alot. i use my gps for saving hunting spots -thats it and to get me back to a truck or atv. This unit works fantastic. keeps gps signal. has eltric compass which keeps me on track even if i walk in wrong direction two steps. WAAS technology so i am always on top of deer area and deer stand. THIS is a HUNTING GPS. Screen is great - i have worn the buttons out on it after 5 years though.
Summary: I like the explorist gps. I have owned one before and am familiar with them and comfortable. I am not sure if I like the rechargable battery or replaceable batteries. I was lost once a few years back and spent the night out in subfreezing weather. Never again! The explorist is a good fit for me.
Summary: had one and it broke and megellan does not work on explorist 600 so i had to buy one on ebay and with my bad luck i dropped it in the river and lost it. so i bid on two more and the same person bought both of them with seconds left to beat me sounds like something fishy is going on with ebay. with that said i dont know if i will use ebay again.
Summary: I have had this for some years now (about 2 months after it was 1st released), no problems, I never had to call CS, so I can't comment on that.
I have gotten is wet, snowed on, in cool weather (20's), hot weather (over 105) & dropped it a few times.
Uploading maps, using Topo 3d, goes better when putting the SD into the SD card reader on my computer (O/S XP pro), I don't like having to take out the battery to get to the SD card
As time has gone by the battery seem to...
Summary: Magellan Customer service is the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. They offer a free 30 day map update since all of their products ship with out of date maps. This would be a good thing except it is in the fine print of their products and their customer support email address that their website list is the wrong address. I had to get through to their customer service by posting a bad review on their website.
Summary: Geo cached with unit this past weekend and it was dead on accurate. Looking forward to more caching. Havn't tried any of the "features" yet but kinda busy to hook it up to the computer. But will get there.
