Summary: Had the 600 explorist and it's software was crap from the beginning and the unit just quit working. It had failed once before and had to be sent back. It appeared that the new 510 explorist might have fixed and improved all the short comings of this earlier unit NOT.....
Summary: I purchased this GPS unit and was expecting it to be good to go, just like my last Garmin GPS. I was wrong. The preloaded map is awful, the unit requires a micro sd card to download any of their maps including one that was free with my unit.
Summary: I bought a new eXplorist 510 about three years ago. It was a pretty nice little unit and fits comfortably in the hand. The screen is small, but it's a handheld device. The single star in this review stems from two issues.
Summary: I bought the eXplorist 510 because it had a built in camera & recorder despite the fact there were some bad reviews. The unit is hefty and the camera & recorder are OK, but the GPS has serious problems.
Summary: I had a brand new explorist 510. Put batteries in and used it. It seemed to work ok. The next day I took it out and the bateries were dead. I thought I maybe left it on by mistake. I put in a new set of batteries and tried it again.
Summary: My brand new, barely out of the box unit will only power up if plugged in to the wall or car jack. It will not recognize the battery power (I changed all the appropriate power settings). Apparently, this is a known problem with these and other Magellan units.
