Summary: I could not get it to work from day one. Unit contains no map is all I can get out of it. And now it ruin two weekends of riding for me. I'm not happy with this unit and I don't know if it's the product itself or just the one I got.

Summary: I bought the unit a few years ago, when it came out. It was never user-friendly and tech support was nil. I threw it in a drawer and did not use it as I had planned. Now it seems Magellan has abandoned the Explorist line. Even the terrible tech support is gone. Run away from Magellan as fast as you can.
Summary: I wanted an inexpensive Topo GPS. One must purchase ToPo disks. I was not able to find useful downloadable maps on the web. They may be there, but I'm not that computer literate. After some stumbeling around, I was able to get the maps that I needed onto the memory chip. I had to do this with a card reader since my windows xp computer would not recoganize the GPS. The process might be easier if you have facility with computers.

Summary: Try as I might, I honestly can not find anything positive to say about the Explorist 500 LE, or Magellan for that matter. My GPS was purchased new in 2009 as a gift from my wife, and has never even made it into to the field. It has had issues from nearly the first day out of the box. Magellan tech support has been wholly ineffectual.
Summary: I bought this GPS to go geocaching.I was using a friends GPS and this is the one he had.We have had great luck with it so I wanted the same one. What was nice with it was I already knew how to use it and with us having the same one we can share maps.
Summary: It Workes Amazine is Much as It is Describes Love it so Much Bought one for my father in law if you love the Outdoors this is the Product for you living in the North and having so Much Bush around it has been a great to go atving and Feel safe with this product
Summary: This is a great handheld GPS. I found free topo maps for all of Canada on the internet and load up the areas I am heading for on the SD Card. So easy to use that my 7 year old grandson used it for geocaching this summer. Although it is an older model, the features and accuracy are as good or better than most models on the market today. The rugged construction makes it almost bulletproof.
