Summary: I recieved the first one after it would not load I cantacted Magellan after serveral tries they said it was defective. Got a second one from Amazon. I was unable to turn it on so again I sent it back. I have several stationary GPS's and they have always worked fine. They are not Magellan. I suspect Magellan has little or no quality control on the hand held devices andwould rather ship sub-standard units than fix the problem.
Summary: Bought this for my brother, who is an avid fisherman. Have to admit that I didn't do nearly enough research about the HotSpot Fishing package. Trusted the few reviews posted about the actual bundle here on Amazon, which of course are not here in the NE. Not only can you only get this for 3 lakes, but the lakes available are very limited. The closet lake to SE New York is in CT, and the closest NY lake is Lake George! 2+ hours from the area.
Summary: "Joystick" button broke after owning for less than a year. After several attempts to get Magellan to repair it even at my cost, they have still refused to repair this item. The lack of durability of an item this expensive is ridiculous. I did not even put it through heavy use. In addition the GPS accuracy was extremely poor and satellite acquisition time is abysmal. I most certainly will not ever be ordering a magellan GPS ever again.
Summary: It worked for 1 week in California. Then I took it to Italy where it promptly lost the satellite signal. Still couldn't track when I returned to California. No amount of right arrow, on/off, leave in a field on a cloudless, moonless night resetting helped. Magellan customer support was no help. The joystick was always awkward to use, so no big loss returning it to Amazon.
Summary: I do not recommend the Magellan eXplorist 310 Angler Edition. The screen can not be seen in direct or indirect sun light. Inside you can see it fine. Therefore it is useless for the purpose for which it is sold for. That is fishing. I returned mine.
