Summary: Pros: Good price, nice features Cons: Good features do not do you any good if it won't talk to the birds above. The nice folks at Magellan are sending me a replacement because mine does everything but get fixes from the satellites. Once I get the replacement, I'll do another review.
Summary: I recieved the first one after it would not load I cantacted Magellan after serveral tries they said it was defective. Got a second one from Amazon. I was unable to turn it on so again I sent it back. I have several stationary GPS's and they have always worked fine. They are not Magellan.
Summary: Bought this for my brother, who is an avid fisherman. Have to admit that I didn't do nearly enough research about the HotSpot Fishing package. Trusted the few reviews posted about the actual bundle here on Amazon, which of course are not here in the NE.
Summary: It worked for 1 week in California. Then I took it to Italy where it promptly lost the satellite signal. Still couldn't track when I returned to California. No amount of right arrow, on/off, leave in a field on a cloudless, moonless night resetting helped. Magellan customer support was no help.
Summary: My old Meridian bit the dust. No complaints it did just what I wanted on my boat for years. It gave me one screen with position (lat/lon), course and speed on one page. The explorist does none of that, as far as I can tell, on any page. Too bad.
Summary: "Joystick" button broke after owning for less than a year. After several attempts to get Magellan to repair it even at my cost, they have still refused to repair this item. The lack of durability of an item this expensive is ridiculous. I did not even put it through heavy use.
Summary: Terrible little device. Takes forever to power on and lock on. The menu system is infuriatingly bad. And the CPU is too slow, so when you press any button, it takes up to 5 seconds before anything changes on the screen, so you're always waiting for the device to catch up to your commands.
