  • Summary: This stupid thing was broken out of the box. And nowadays it's superseded by your phone so is completely pointless.

  • Excerpt: It was a great GPS when it worked. It received signal with tree cover and cloudy without much problem. Used in with Topo program from Magellan, the GPS took on a whole level of enjoyment. However, the software froze on me and I could not get it to work again.

Rugged and well built

Jon Almada, Amazon

  • Summary: I bought one of these low-end GPS systems for use outdoors and was very impressed with the no-frills but quality menu design and simple and intuitive operation. I've taken the Explorist on a number of trips and found that it did well when I was driving along with the GPS unit sitting on my dash or...

not safe

Happy Camper, Amazon
9 May 2007
  • Summary: I don't recommend this unit. The memory is NOT protected and all data will be lost if the 8mb battery dies..which is what happened to me..I was lucky to not be relying on this as a life support.

Arthur Spiess, Amazon

  • Summary: I'm very pleased with this GPS unit. It's extremely sensitive, measuring your speed, direction and distance not only while in a moving vehicle, but even when walking which surprised me for an item of that price.

It does the job.

Shoeman, Amazon
9 May 2007
  • Summary: I use the GPS unit for when I go out geocaching and it works great. The map detail is so much better compared to the 100 version, and I haven't noticed anything really lacking when compared to the 300 version.

Magellan eXplorist 200

DSH, Amazon
9 May 2007
  • Summary: I use my hand-held GPS units mainly for geocaching, hiking and hunting. I don't download any data into my GPS units, so I prefer more "basic" models. I started with a basic yellow Garmin eTrex, and it worked fine, except for losing satellite signals indoors, under heavy tree cover, and sometimes in...

Rotten instructions, product works fine.

Karl Erich Martell, Amazon
9 May 2007
  • Summary: My mom gave me an eXplorist 200 GPS receiver for Christmas. I had a great deal of difficulty getting started with it because the instructions that came with it were so sketchy. Magellan's online instructions were of no help (their little program eventually told me, "Guess I haven't been able to help...
