Summary: I had purchased and have been very happy with the older version of this unit. This one has a larger display, which is nice, but the old ones had a volume knob, to more or less instantly lower or raise the volume to match the traffic noise or whatever without really even having to think about it or look away from the road. This one has tiny "up" and "down" buttons and is overall much less intuitive to use.

Summary: This radio is not easy to use. It works ok but is the most difficult thing I have ever tried to operate. If I had known how hard it would be to operate it, I would not have bought it. Kenwood's design of this radio makes me to not ever want to buy another Kenwood product. The only good thing about this radio is useing Garmin GPS.
Summary: I would like to give my .02 on this unit by Kenwood. I will start by throwing out the negative: The options you might want to add to it will cost extra money. For me it was sirius sat radio, IPOD controls, and a backup camera. Lets face it here, all of the competition makes you pay for add-ons too. I read some reviews about cold starts on this unit and have noticed it a little slower to boot up when the ground is frozen out!
Summary: My son owns a custom audio installation business and I am familiar with many brands of receivers and this is by far the most advanced unit I have seen to date. If this radio doesn't have what you want, then you don't need it.
Summary: I recently had this installed to replace my factory Jeep Nav Unit. Called the support to ask about two things. One the response time is kind of slow and the light level is VERY high. Especially on the GPS during sundown hours. They walked me through a few things but nothing solved either problem. The service tech suggested upgrading the BIOS since it was a version behind, suggesting this may help. I used a USB as instructed on thier site.
Summary: I've had the DNX9980HD for almost two years now. It is one of the most ill-advised purchases I've made at this cost. As noted by others, it has more options than anyone could possibly require. That's fine, but navigating the options while driving (switching from radio to Sirius to CD) is dangerous. The voice commands are not intuitive and work episodically. In fact, nothing in the system is intuitive.
Summary: I'm very surprised by the negative reviews! I don't know where these people bought their Kenwood's from (some shady online dealer, perhaps?) I bought mine from and was installed by an authorized Kenwood dealer. I really have nothing but good things to say about it. Some people do complain about the screen brightness at night, and if I had to pick out a downfall of the unit it would be that. I can easily get over a bright screen simply by turning the display off.
