Summary: My 898csi hd 7 works well under 8 knots. Any faster and is useless. Have replaced transducer after drilling several positions in the stern. Have now been asked to send the whole head unit back after 9 months of being treated like its my fault. So Ill be without for 4 weeks while it gets tested. Not happy with something that wont even give the sea bottom at 15 knots.
Summary: Most of the reviews for this are about the unit with side imaging. This model does not have side imaging, it is very misleading. Be careful what you buy. The 858c is good at what it does don't confuse with the si model.
Do not buy this if you plan on using in a location with exposure to daylight!

Summary: I discovered to late that the backlight is inadequate. The CCFL backlighting this model features is worthless in daylight, that becomes a major factor when using the unit for DI/SI imaging. Humminbird is aware of this and replaced the unit with a 898c HD si, this new unit features led backlighting which is 50% brighter. When i purchased the unit I had looked at a 798 Hd si.
Summary: This unit is absolutely the best..The side imaging is so informative, the 2d sonar helps you understand what you are seeing with the other features... Ive owned lowrance and Garmin and there is nothing like the birds. I added the weather sense to my unit. I know when to come out of the deep water and fish shallow.. Humminbird customer service is so helpful they will escalate the call if there issues. My unit was flaking out when got to the lake and started down water.
Summary: I'm completely disappointed in the 858C. I've been trying to get it to work for over a month now, but it won't read depths deeper than 250-260 feet, even though this thing is supposed to work up to 1500 feet deep. Many calls to the support section at Humminbird have not resolved the problem. Tweaking settings have not resulted in any appreciable improvement. They sent me a new transducer that I will try this weekend.
