Summary: great starter unit for side scan. I recently bought my first humminbird unit 798ciHD. I love it. It has dual card slots, internal gps it does side scan, down scan, traditions sonar. the only draw backs are in side scan the screen is a bit small to see good detail and the pre loaded maps are pretty worthless. expect to get a navionics card to go with it for any good lake contour info. overall im happy.
Very disapionnted with the GPS , love the fish finder.

Summary: I bought this unit in February 2013. Fish finder part works great, GPS does not work on my part of the ocmulgee river in South Georgia. Called, sent it in for repair , got it back (Very fast) , but no change. Still will not show my part of the river on the screen. Was told nothing can be done. Very disappointed in the GPS but love the fish finder. You might want to check with Humminbird and see if your area is covered before you buy.
Summary: This device seems to do everything it says it will do, but; You need to study, study, study the displays to be able to understand what you are looking at. I am sure that I will enjoy this more after I have used it for a few months. The gps, used with a LakeMaster chart is awesome. The si, and di views need to be used at a steady speed (still to be determined in my case) but they do work as advertised. If you can afford it, the larger screen is advised.
Summary: I like the unit. But typical with corporate cost cutting the stainless fasteners supplied are Chinese. I broke the heads off two screws (using the proper drill bit they specify) and the nut for the 1/4-20 bolt for the transducer was metric---so it was a challenge--had to replace it with a 1/4-20 nut of my own. The time spent just troubleshooting this issue really got my Goat.
Summary: This is an excellent fishfinder but if you can possibly swing it upgrade to a larger screen model, some of the details are harder to see and you can zoom in on them but the picture isn't as clear.
Summary: After checking the web for reviews on Lowrance and Humminbird both and finding horror stories anymore about customer service from Lowrance and wait times of months, not to mention being charged to repair units under warranty, I decided to try this out as I called them several times with questions and got excellent responses each time. Mounted on the trolling motor on the front of the boat and I have to say it is sweet. Works exactly as advertised with no problems.
Summary: My husband and I just bought a Pontoon Boat for fishing and pleasure. We both enjoy fishing so we wanted to get some good equipment to go along with the boat and this unit was highly recommended. It may even be more than we need right now because it is "Loaded" with all kinds of good things. The graphics are easy to read and clear. The depth finder with alarm is very helpful. Even when the sun is shining on the screen, it is clear and easy to read.
Easy to use and gives great representation of bottom structure.

Summary: If you know how to use Windows, using the menu is a snap. LOTS of features, display is easy to read even in bright sun, and installation is simple. The wider screen model would be even better, but for the price, this is an excellent piece of electronics
Summary: I would like to have known that I needed a new Navionics card to navigate the west coast ocean waters. I may have missed this in my research, but the added expense may have changed my decision to purchase this unit.
