Summary: Excellent accuracy and great software. Cheap power switch was sticky from the start. Broke in less than a year. Now, I'm going to have to pull out the battery to switch off the power. I wrap a narrow strip of scrap paper around the batteries to shut to power off and keep the battery in the unit. To turn on, just remove the paper from the battery and store the paper on top of the battery. I like it enough to consider replacing it.
Summary: This logger is amazing for when I let other people drive my vehicles. It also works for geotagging photos with the included software, but only with great effort. The Bluetooth connection is a huge pain in the neck. I thought I would use the BT to connect to Android smartphones to improve GPS accuracy and acquisition time over what's possible with the built-in GPS, but the hassle just isn't worth it.
Summary: power switch had problems after about 1 year. I use this with my camera and the failure meant that most of the photos from my biggest trip of the year didn't get tagged. I bought a second one only because I couldn't find an alternative with the features I wanted.
Summary: Having recently lost my QStarz BT-1000X somewhere in the Frankfurt airport (and getting only automated German replies to my email inquiries), I set out to search for a replacement unit. I use these GPS loggers primarily for geotagging while traveling in the US, Europe and Africa. In many ways, this review will compare the QStarz BT-1000X with the Holux M-1000C. (I have an older Garmin eTrex, but I never use it.
Summary: Used to track mountain bike courses. Turn it on before starting out. turn off when complete. Has plenty of storage for many hours of recording if needed by setting time or distance intervals. Downloaded latest software from Holux site. able to output files in kmz format and upload to Google Earth or Google Maps. I would recommend this product.
Summary: I've been taking this with me on my worldy travels, and it works great for most of the time. The software it comes with is proprietary and hard to find if you lose the CD. I've had a few instances where the tracking log would clear itself and I come home to find only the last hour or so of travel is there! So frustrating! I use it to geo-locate my photos by timestamp. It lasts all day, sometimes until the next morning if I forget to turn it off.
Summary: I use this with my camera and with this (plus a very small light Bluetooth receiver on the camera) I get position data on my pictures with negligible increase in camera weight. The GPS fits in any pocket and maintains it's lock-on with no problems.
Summary: This seems to be a great unit, but the setup took me many, many hours to do because of missing instructions. Here is my setup, for what it is worth, for both Windows 7 Starter on the Asus Netbook and the Dell XPS 8500 using Windows Win 7 Home Premium. Accuracy seems to be within 20 feet after the initial couple of readings. The unit even locks in on the first floor of my two story house with 10x loss of accuracy.
