Summary: I've been trying to use this GPS for 8 months but will be replacing it with something that actually works. The Harman Kardon GPS-500 should never have been released for sale. The software locks-up frequently, even pressing the hard-reset sometimes does not help. Loading movies onto the device is nigh on impossible. The maps are hopelessly out of date and can't be updated. The program logic for entering an address almost never finds the address you are trying to enter.
Summary: Great Features -- Poor Quality Harman Kardon should just stick to Audio Products. This GPS ended up being a huge mistake. The Suction cup started failing on me. Because of this the unit fell to my dash and the USB/Power port broke off of the circuit board because of the fact that it was surface mounted. These are two flaws with the unit. The mount needs to be strong enough to support the device that it was engineered to hold.
Summary: I tried hard to like it. Because I Like Harman Kardon and because it looked nice. And the MP3 player and DVD player. But I wanted a GPS and in 3 days testing and trying I got 1 out of 10 times a signal, the rest of the time this thing was searching! And there are so many roads that don't exist on the map! Old material! I use gps with my laptop since 4 years and never had a problem. So this one goes back and I am buying the Garmin Nuvi 360.
Summary: I am extremely disappointed in the performance of this product. We purchased it before a 2 month vacation so we could get around unfamiliar places more easily. Once we had our hotels booked I tried locating them on the GPS-500. Almost none of our hotels were in it's list. And these weren't new hotels in remote locations. They were near Yellowstone park! I ended up having to look up the address and punch it in and was finally able to get the locations we needed.
Summary: I wanted to really try this unit out before I wrote a final review. I paid $400 for the unit. I bought it mainly on the positive reviews from this site, because I have never heard of the company before. I wonder if all the positive reviews aren't employed by the company. First, an 8 page users manual (but, you can print out more online using your own ink and paper!).
