GPS ZUMO 550

J. Ammeter, Amazon
19 March 2011
  • Summary: The 550 comes with mounts for both the motorcycle and a car which was a pleasant surprise for me. I ordered an extra mount so I could easily transfer the 550 from my BMW K1200LT to my BMW R1150GS. I've only used it for local rides but did find it easy to program it.

Tough, reliable, user-friendly design; really outdated maps; but proved invaluable on a 9000 mile, solo ride.

Chad Varnadore, Amazon
8 March 2010
  • Summary: I love this product. I honestly, don't know what I would have done without it on a 9000 mile loop of the US that I made on my 2003 Harley in August of 2008. In addition to guiding my way through unknown wilderness without ever losing a signal even among the tall forests of Northern California and...

Zumo

R. Baehre "..", Amazon
16 August 2009
  • Summary: This product, I've had it over a year now, is pretty good as I use it on my motorcycles and in my "cage". I think the two most desirable features, that matter the most to me, is that you can only update your map once (TOM-TOM is forever) and you cant give it voice commands.

Zumo 550 - A Few Thoughts

Amazon Customer "Andy F.", Amazon
13 January 2009
  • Summary: People complain about the Zumo not having a built in speaker. Well, you wouldn't be able to hear it while riding your bike it if it had one, so it's a bit of a moot point. On a side note, I think there are some features the unit lacks that can be somewhat annoying.

Garmin Zumo 550 Navigation Aids Review

Consumer Democracy
9 June 2008
  • Summary: Zumo 550 is advertised for motorcycles and cars and works well most of the time. Interface with computer maps is good altho figuring out how to upload more than one route is a task.
  • Pros: Ease of use-designed for motorcycle/car, good voice directions, MP3, Cell Phone compat.
  • Cons: Maps not always accurate-Voice directions sometime late-Good only for major roads and cities not backroads.

Motorcycle GPS

Edward Roufberg, Amazon
20 July 2007
  • Summary: As you can see 4 stars. It is not perfect. I have been a Magellan user for 4 years and I first purchased a Magellan for my Motorcycle. It broke twice probably because it couldn`t take the vibration. Magellan doesn't make a GPS for Motorcycles. I then tried the Tom Tom and was totally disappointed.

almost perfect

Brian J. Boyle, Amazon
27 June 2007
  • Summary: I love the navagation screen. The 3d effect allows me to quickly determine where I'm going. The satallite radio is the best! Rode 800 miles listening to weather and non-stop music. Love the MP3 player as well, although found out that songs purchased on itunes won't play on it.

Zumo 550

MIMIQ "memeq", Amazon
19 May 2007
  • Summary: Easy to use! We love it! I would have liked to have known about the extra parts required (for motorcycle use) to be able to use it to it's full capability. Such as wiring harness and special antenna for XM radio. But otherwise it has been one of the best extras we have purchased for the bike.

Garmin Zumo 550 Motorcycle GPS Navigator

S. Brown "baujai", Amazon
11 May 2007
  • Summary: So far I am mostly pleased with this GPS. There are a couple of things that I think could be done better: 1. A motorcycle GPS should have an option to pick the route with the most turns or some similar criteria.

  • Summary: Pleased with the Zumo, however there were parts missing. You have to order special wiring (Kennedy wire) to use the GPS through a headset, otherwise you will not get the voice comands. This special wiring is expensive. After 1 month, still waiting to mount on motorcycle.
