Summary: Comments about Garmin Streetpilot 2720: I did a lot of research for about a year. The 2720 beats all the Garmin products which mean it beats all the other brands too. The database is excellant, some loss of coverage in new developments but new updates are this month. the computation speed is phenominal. the voice volume range is excellant on the speaker. The screen is better than the Nuvi 360/660 series. The routing is right on.
Pros: Acquires Satellites Quickly, Easy Menus, Easy To Read, Easy To Set Up, Reliable Performance, Secure Mounting, Simple Controls
Summary: This is my 6th GPS since 1993 and the last 5 were Garmin. This is my first automotive; the others having been for marine applications. I am dumbfounded by the performance and ease of use. You can get more frills on other models, but I don't beleive there is a better navigator out there. Not having internal batteries seemed odd at first, but I soon realized they were not needed and NOT MISSED! Programing is so easy it takes a couple minutes in the car before departing.
Summary: I wish I could give this gizmo 10 stars! The bean bag mount allows you to switch it from car to car with ease and doesn't mar the dashboard. I live in the NYC metro area and travel as a musician and writer. I have been lost so many times in Brooklyn and Queens, I can't remember. The streets are confusing, sometimes signs are missing, there are many one-way streets and dead ends and, of course, construction detours.
Summary: We received our StreetPilot about a week before we headed out on vacation in the California mountains so we didn't get much chance to practice using it. I found it easy to use and it worked great even up in the mountains. Sometimes in the mountains it took a little longer to triangulate our position but it always found our position. Its directions were accurate and easy to follow. If you have a specific address to go to it works great.
Summary: I've had this unit for close to a year now, and I absolutely love it. First and foremost, the audio instructions are superior to most other units. Instead of saying "in .8 miles, turn right", it says "in .8 miles, turn right on Maple Street". When you get near Maple street, it doesn't just say "Turn right now", it says "Turn right on Maple Street". This is extremely helpful for a number of reasons: 1.
Summary: I bought this whilst in California and found it useful when going on trips to Yosemite etc. You just plug in and go. (You almost don't need to ever read the instructions it is so easy.) I was the main driver and it meant no more arguments of the best way to go or shouting because turns had been missed. Then I moved to Washington D.C with my family and the Garmin StreetPilot 2720 became the valuable piece of equipment. Where ever we were trying to go it got us there.
Summary: The Garmin StreetPilot 2720 is the best GPS currently on Amazon for two reasons. First, this GPS is only a year old, and costs half as much as it originally did! Second, you will not sacrifice features by paying less for this GPS. It costs what a mid-level unit costs, but it is quite an advanced system. The screen is approximately four inches by three inches and automatically adjusts its brightness depending on how bright your surroundings are.
Summary: It tells you far enough in advance to get ready to turn. Before we had the 2720 we'd either miss our turn, or made quick turns (very dangerous) to get to our destination. It's better than having someone looking at a map and giving you directions while you're driving the car. We're still learning all the features, but it will be in the car with us everywhere we go from now on, even if we know exactly where we're going.
Summary: I knew I wanted to purchase a "portable" GPS system and was trying to decide the Magellan 760 and the Garmin StreetPilot 2720. My major concern was the text-to-speech feature on both. After going into a local Costco store and asking why they no longer carry Magellean, the front end manager said because of the high rate of returns (Since then I noticed they are carrying the newest Magellan unit).
Summary: I bought this unit after purchasing an auto with a built in GPS, and wanted one for my other car. This product is terrific. Take it out of the box, plug it in and it works. Entering addresses on the touch screen couldn't be easier. Maps are easy to follow, instructions are clear. Much better than my built in unit. Data base with hotels and restaurants is also terrific. I recommend to anyone who wants an auto GPS. Portability is an added plus.
