ripped off

luckydog, Amazon
17 August 2012
  • Summary: The person who sold this product put a cell phone charger in the box, to make it look like it had a charger, so there was no way to charge the battery until i spent more money for a charger. i felt i paid top dollar for a used product that was never used(haha on me) Hopefully the battery will still charge so i dont have to spend more money on a new battery. We have friends with the units that love them thats why i wanted this product that is no longer available new.

Garmin 530hcx, youre on your own

J. Rawls, Amazon
23 November 2010
  • Summary: This is a good radio/gps. Unfortunately, garmin and mapsource make it alot more difficult than it needs to be. The downloadable maps feature is great. Whats not great is that the website instructs you to download directly to your garmin. After 4 attempts, tech support said that way doesn't work. You have to download to a card reader with the radio connected. Silly me, I should of known that. Afterall its written plain as day_____nowhere!!! BEWARE!!!!

Polling & Transmit Problems

Peter Mayhew, Amazon
15 November 2010
  • Summary: I'm beginning to wonder if I made a bad choice, in buying the Rino 530HCx radios. I purchased 3 of them so that my sons and I could keep track of each other's location, without having to talk and spook game. Well, when they work right, polling the other person is great, but they don't always update, even if you are not very far from each other! Sometimes this can be as close as 100 yards!

Fine GPS but lousy radio

J. M. Hunt, Amazon
20 September 2009
  • Summary: In February, 2008, I purchased 3 different sets of the 530HCX through Amazon and ended up returning them all for the same reason; the radios do not transmit consistently. My husband and I tested them around the house, inside and out with frustrating results. The Garmin's would rarely transmit. We feel there is a problem with the button that keys the radio. I called tech support several times and was walked through different settings but nothing worked.

Chapinito, Rate it all!

  • Summary: The GPS works fine, its the radio part that is not working. It receives signal fine but, will not transmit out. I am calling Garmin to get mine replaced or fixed. Bought it for military deployment and disappointed with the condition of the new product.

Worth about $200

A. Newell, Amazon

  • Summary: I have had this unit for a few months. I should have returned it. First the positive: It is durable, I have dropped it once, and it has flown off my bike twice and still works. The trip manager is very nice. You can choose many different types of information to view and the "big numbers" feature is great for cycling. Now the negs. I have found the "track back" feature worthless. If you are counting on this to lead you back to camp after getting lost, forget it.
