"Relatively Bullet Proof. Small and easily Carried."
10 November 2008
Pros: The lithium battery, Easily carried in a shirt pocket. Bright screen as long as you have it connected to a power source.
Cons: The unit does not announce turns far enough in advance to be usable when city driving. When highway driving the unit announces turns far enough in advance to be usable. The screen is nearly unusable if it is not plugged into a power source.
Summary: the unit was a refurbished quest 2 great for motorcycle, weatherproof, fits right in the mount for harley's road tech by garmin and was a great buy for the price on ebay, when i recieved the unit and tried to use it, it was full of glitches, extremely slow refresh rates, i'd go past a scheduled turn 300 ft before it would even tell me to turn, when it tried to recalculate route it took a long time, contacted Garmin and they made some suggestions to try and the next time...
Summary: I had a Quest which was recently lifted from my luggage at the airport. I was going to replace it but decided to get the Quest 2. I wish I had gone with the original Quest. (1). The U.S. maps are locked in. I cannot remove them. As long as you are in the U.S. of A. you're OK but I'm in Europe. I do not have enough memory (35mb) to create the maps that I need. I now have to take my laptop on every trip to upload the next section of maps that I need.
Summary: This Garmin works fine. However, it is very slow in recalculating a missed turn. Not as user friendly as a touch screen. I would not have purchased this unit if I had tried a touch screen first! Over priced for its features.
Summary: I liked the small size of the unit and that the whole USA is in the system but to plan street to street with very specific waypoints it's best to plan and download from your PC. The unit's display is bright, but a sunshield accessory to improve visability when sunlight falls on the display would be a good idea; I often folded cardboard over the unit to improve the visability in bright light.
Summary: I really hoped this unit would work out for me. And initially it did. The software was good, directions good, POI good... but the deal-breaker? It's very slow in calculating and rerouting. In fact, its unusably slow. And the unchecking of the maps as the other reviewer stated DOES NOT WORK. I tried the same by unchecking everything but Texas, where I live and guess what. Still slow. The problem with speed isn't so much with the initial routing... sure.
