Pre-Loaded Maps are Worthless

Dr. Michael R. Adams, Amazon
21 July 2009
  • Summary: Let me first start off by saying I love the Oregon series. But I returned my 400i to Amazon after less than a week. I ended up with the 400T and think it's wonderful. The touchscreen interface is much easier to use than my previous eTrex Legend HCX and my 60CSX.

  • Conclusion: I posted the results of my visibility comparisons here today. Visibility Comparison: From left to right: Garmin MAP60CSx, Garmin Oregon 400T, AT&T Tilt. The AT&T Tilt is a cell phone with a 'touch screen' and an internal GPS receiver.
  • Pros: Good visibility compared to other 'touch screen' devices.
  • Cons: Should be provided with a good quality screen shield.

A. Lee, Amazon
29 December 2008
  • Summary: I bought this for my husband for Xmas and we have been using it right out of the box. I showed Lakes, ponds, rivers, and creeks. I've lived in South Carolina for 24 years and there were creeks and ponds I didn't know about. My husband is a Bass Fisherman and he is going to use it for Tournaments.

  • Conclusion: The touch screen is a pleasure to use, even with wet fingers. This device has great feature for fishermen - the detailed and accurate maps of over 1,000 US lakes. Before I had a Colorado from garmin and I always felt like my colorado should have had a touch screen.
  • Pros: touch screen
  • Cons: none

EXCELLANT Product!!!

RLC, Amazon
20 July 2008
  • Summary: We use the 400i in our boat. It has worked flawlessly for four Seasons now. Very durable, has survived some pretty rough rides and several drops to the floor. :( Love the dashboard feature, it's very much like what you have in your car, total miles, reset-able trip mi, running speed and saved max...

Hard to view!

D. McIntosh, Amazon
20 July 2008
  • Summary: Purchased this unit for use in a sailboat, gave the unit a try in the car first. In the sunlight with sunglasses this unit is impossible to see, sunglasses off is not much better. I would not be able to see this unit in a bright sailboat! Sent the unit back, will stick to a gray scale screen.

garmin 400i buy it

David Sanders, Amazon
20 July 2008
  • Summary: The 400T is for T terrain 400i I inland lakes. The details on the lakes are sketchy but its covering the whole US. So a lot of lakes won't show the topo but living in MN i know it at least shows all the creeks ponds and lakes and has them named.
