cyber5926, Ebay
2 December 2009
  • Summary: I already purchased NIB nuvi 885t around 4 months before through eBay and the features of nuvi 885t simply amazed me. especially it's signal reception sensitive as compare to nuvi 700 series or other GPS modules are EXCELLENT. bUT! my experience to buy REFURBISHED nuvi 885t is not GOOD, coz around 78% the device get stuck/ freez without any intention. Further more the blue tooth connection with my mobile phone for hands free calling is not working.

warning for nuvi 885t

Shinigami "Shinigami", Amazon
30 October 2009
  • Summary: BE WARNED: I chose this for the MSN traffic, but this service is being cut by Microsoft! I will end up buying a FM traffic device after my MSN traffic expires. So I just bought a nuvi1490t. Previous owner of nuvi760, I bought this (in Amazon Sept2009) due to good reviews in numerous websites including Consumer Reports, but I got a bad item. I sold it and got a nuvi 1490t and very happy with its performance.

BUYER BEWARE: Amazon Does Not Work With You on Exchanges

Bobcat44, Amazon
25 October 2009
  • Summary: I read though all of the information on the Garmin 88T and thought it would be a great GPS. When I received it I called MSN for my free three month trial and was told that MSN was not supported in my area. I was also told the $129.00 life time MSN package was no longer available. The customer service rep. suggested I could go to Best Buy and get a prepaid card for the lifetime package if they still had any (made me wonder why I bought through Amazon instead of Best Buy).

returned 3 units - no more garmin

J. Davies, Amazon
11 October 2009
  • Summary: I recently made my first GPS purchase. Research and friends dictated that Garmin was the way to go. Looking at features I settled on the 885T model. The first one was purchased locally. Almost immediately it began to freeze up. Sometimes a simple on/off took care of the problem. Other times a wait of 20-30 minutes was required. Then about 2 weeks into it, on power up it began to randomly draw light blue lines such as one might see on a charted tracking unit.

Can't hear it.

Captain Alphonso Seadog, Amazon
23 September 2009
  • Summary: I had a nuvi 660 before and now have bought the 885T. I wish I had my 660 back. This unit must use a different system because it routes me different then my last one did. The biggest problem however is that you can not hear it. They must have reduced the wattage on the speaker and amp. When you are driving and have the radio on or pass a truck the volume is so low that you can not hear it. Even at 100% volume it is to low.

885t problems

Amazon Customer, Amazon
31 May 2009
  • Summary: I bought the 885t 2 months ago and have returned 2 to Amazon due to defects. The first 885t had problems with the touch screen completely freezing up and I had to take the battery out to get it to restart. The second GPS started shutting down and rebooting on its own on several occasions. With both units, I called Garmin and they confirmed it was a defect in the product. I am very disappointed I got two lemons in a row.

Major Disappointment

D. Perry, Amazon
18 May 2009
  • Summary: I "upgraded" from a Garmin NUVI 350 to an 885T. My 1st trip was from Tennessee thru the Northeast, seeking specific locations for my job. I brought both units, luckily, as the new 885T tried to get constantly send me who knows where. I eventually put the old 350 unit on the windshield along side it, what a geek, and started comparing routes. In Boston, trying to go to an address I had previously visited, the 885T got me lost miles away.
