GRREEAT GPS!

M. Widner "Huckleberry", Amazon
9 March 2009
  • Summary: I never really thought about buying a GPS for my car. Most of my experience with these have been in rental cars. Those were Magellan systems and they were awsome I thought in strange towns. At the time of purchasing this Garmin unit, I was in yet another strange town and my rental car didn't have the option. So I shopped around local places and online. This GPS is almost awsome! Why "almost" you ask?

Very good product, but has an annoying bug

Byte Runner Technologies "Sean Dudley", Amazon

  • Summary: The Nuvi 880 is really cool. It understands speech quite well. (although I had to use the add on external microphone because my vehicle noise is rather high since it is a diesel vehicle.) With the microphone, as long as I speak clearly and don't speak too quickly (normal speed is fine), and leave a slight pause between words, it works very well.

Garmin nuvi 880

  • Summary: Purchased via Amazon for 1/2 the price of the same unit at Best Buy. 90% accurate and extremely helpful refinding the freeway ramp in an unfamiliar city or town. Need to review some route choices that could place you on a two lane vs the freeway for a more direct route. Modify as you see fit. MSN Direct useful but not available in very many places.

Garmin nuvi 880

SandroScielzo, Rate it all!

  • Summary: My wife and I chose this Garmin because of the very robust speech recognition feature. We wanted to be able to drive and 'talk' to the device, because, frankly, pushing buttons while driving is distracting at best and dangerous at worst. This GPS fits the bill perfectly. I have an accent and the device still recognized my verbal commands. The interface is the typical Garmin interface, created with the user in mind.

happy but have some issues

PD - seattle "PD - Seattle", Amazon

  • Summary: Quick review. Set up was really easy out of the box. Disappointed in the non yellow page feature - ie they have points of interest but they do not include everything that you can get in a GPS of a rental car. (that came with a yellow page lookup feature that seemed to have everything). However if you know the address of the Point of Interest you can type it in. Really liked the on screen touch display. The voice recognition is excellent.

Great Product But For One Thing

R. Hodge "NC Wineman", Amazon
14 September 2008
  • Summary: This is my second nuvi, passed my 680 on to a family member. Got it for the hands-free. I'm delighted with the nuvi series, except the audio for hands-free Bluetooth phone is awful. They supposedly designed the 880 with two speakers <my 680 had only one>. But in order to hear the party on the other end, I must have the radio down, windows up, and AC on low. And yes, I had the audio out set to 100% volume. Maps are Navteq with their old data (even with the 2009 software).

Works great, period!

  • Summary: Right out of the box the Garmin 880 works great. It is feature packed and the voice recognition works better than average. Just take in account road noise, air cond. noise and of course your radio will interfere with it working properly. I purchase Micro SD Ram, attached it to my PC and uploaded a 100 mp3.
