Nuvi 880

Herbert J. Hoelle, Amazon
8 December 2008
  • Summary: The Nuvi works ok, good points are it has the alerts on the screen so all you have to do is touch it to see the alert, the screen is clear and bright, the recalculation works quickly and is accurate. Some poor points are the speaker is not very loud, the phone synchronization is good but the speaker volume is far to low, the unit has difficulty finding satellites at times, the voice recognition for planning a route does not work properly at all, you will do better to use...

Major road trip

Robert P. Parrott "Birdman", Amazon
19 September 2008
  • Summary: Just completed a 7000 mile USA road trip with the Nuvi 880 as my navigator. Generally I was satisfied with its performance. Especially when in a big city. She gave ample warning when to exit and what side of the highway to be on. But here's the "but". The voice recogniztion and the blue tooth were a pain. So had I known I would have gotten the 750 instead. To me the $500 extra was not well spent.

Don't buy this for the voice recognition

R. Kintner, Amazon
8 August 2008
  • Summary: I recently bought a Nuvi 850 for the only one of our three cars that doesn't have a factory nav system and for rental cars. I am pretty well spoiled by factory system integration but I figured that the aftermarket portable crowd may have figured out how to make a decent product at this point. And they have. Decent, not great. First, the primary value of a nav system comes from the basics. Maps, routing engine, receiver, a well designed user interface, and a great screen.
