Summary: Would like to share couples of Cons I experienced in 4 years of use, but overall, Garmin nuvi 780 is a good buy. (Don't know why Amazon says first available date is at 2010, but this product was already released earlier.) Cons: 1. After consistent charging/overcharging frequently, battery later became draining very fast during every use. 2. The sucking mount is not working anymore. Cannot stick to the window. It started to fail after about 1 year of heavy use. 3.
Terrible Battery Life, Some Addresses Not Found, Just an "Okay" GPS
18 August 2013
Summary: Pros: Nice size screen, slim body, great windshield mount, nice display (reflective technology makes it easy to see in daylight), quick satellite fix Cons: Bluetooth unusable, voices difficult to understand (very primitive computer-generated-sounding), low speaker volume, poor battery life, MSN Direct due to become obsolete After having owned an old reliable TomTom One, I decided to give Garmin a shot, rather than paying to update the TomTom's maps.
Summary: Before I get into my complaint, let me say that I really DO like this Garmin product! The 760 does as good as it's maps allow it to do. I love the MP3 player. The screen is plenty big, good color and very readable in sunlight. I've had mine several years and it still holds a good battery charge. I love adding my own POI and routes and I love that it's compatible to MapQuest so I can create a route on MapQuest and download it to my GPS.
Summary: I bought this Nuvi in December 2008. This Nuvi model is a little slow to start up. Other than that I have no complaints. Update: In February 2011, I had to replace the suction cup mount because the previous one lost its suction after two years of regular use. Update: In July 2011, the GPS quit working. I opened the GPS and found a loose electric connector. After re-snapping the connector it started working again.
"Great product but battery died within first four months"
22 December 2009
Pros: This thing is way cool when it's working. Blue tooth is great. One thing I liked is that you can search for a point of interest near your destination or your current route, which was great for road trips.
Cons: The dang thing will not hold a charge, Garmin has a WEAK WEAK WEAK warranty. Map updates are insanely pricey. If you spend this much money on something, you should be able to update it for free.
"I agree with CNET review, dissappointed with this unit"
11 October 2009
Pros: Lots of features including traffic as an option. Keep satellite lock well once locked on. Lots of POIs and easy to find and add more.
Cons: Sometimes slow to update directions, seems to lag when making a turn before the GPS actually catches up to position. I have 2 of these units and they have both forzen up on a couple of occasions each. I did the latest updates, seems better.
Cons: 1. Route type options such as Fastest time, shortest distance, most use of freeways, avoid tolls. These options are in the settings and you need to modify settings for each route 2. Voice is computer generated hard to understand and many more....
Pros: Great GPS with many very useful features - Blue Tooth works great.
Cons: FM transmission to a car radio is full of static - no matter how many frequencies tried - my iPod FM transmitters work great - Garmin says the weak broadcast is FCC regulated -NOT! - condition same on both first defective and replacement unit
