Nuvi 550 Great for Scooters / Motorcycles.

Keith LaBorde, Amazon
7 January 2013
  • Summary: It is my understanding these units are getting harder to find. They are not being sold anymore by Garmin, but a few Dealers on Amazon still have old inventory that are New or possibly Refurbished. The Refurbish units look just like New, so don't be concerned.

Maps of Ancient Rome

R. Boatman, Amazon
27 September 2012
  • Summary: I won't repeat the many other posts about the nuvi's performance in any detail; it is indeed compact, bright (not bright enough for motorcycle really...but that's true of all the "motorcycle" GPS units as well and it's as bright or brighter than any of the dedicated motorcycle units on the market),...

Garmin NUVI 550 & 500 3.5 inch

Rene Guevara, Amazon
30 June 2012
  • Summary: I have extensive experience with various Garmin Car and motorcycle GPS units. This is one of the more reliable units I have used, almost comparable to my Zumo 550 in terms of reliability.

Great for the bike

craig humble, Amazon
15 July 2010
  • Summary: This thing is great. Cruise past a changing speed limit sign and it changes on the NUVI as well. Works great on a Harley. If it takes that vibration, it's good. It's also gotten wet, but didn't hurt it. I bought it on Amazon, it was on sale.

Excellent GPS for Motorcycles at a Good Price!

F. Getter, Amazon
5 September 2009
  • Summary: I'm very happy with this product for the price paid! I had a Zumo 450 in the past and thought it was great, but the price was too high! The lower cost allowed me to buy more farkles for my FJR!

Okay on the road. Terrible for walking.or hiking.

John K. Looze, Amazon
5 September 2009
  • Summary: The unit works fine when driving. When walking it is a whole different story. It will revert to the driving mode, even when in walking, it gives directions to drive, the cursor are happy feet, and when changed to an arrow, it defaults to feet, and round toes are lousy pointers.

How to live dangerously: Urban adventures with the navi

Hostilia, Amazon
5 September 2009
  • Summary: PROS: This is a sturdy little unit, and the user interface is very intuitive and easy to use. I attach it to the air vent of my car, and that works fairly well - the actual attachment is a bit flimsy (we have had two break on us), but fortunately it is cheap, removable and easy to find.

Fine GPS, but lacks inclusion of Mapsource

Merrill Squiers, Amazon
5 September 2009
  • Summary: I purchased this for my motorcycle as the specs supported the necessary water resistance. However, unlike older generations of Garmin GPSs (the last one I purchased was a 2610), Mapsource is no longer included; it can be purchased separately from Garmin.

Traffic data issues

Daryl L. Kerns, Amazon
5 September 2009
  • Summary: I did a lot of investigating before purchasing a Garmin nuvi 550. It is water resistant, so I can use it off-road. It can desplay topographic mapping. But the main intent of the selection was the lifetime traffic data.
