Summary: This device arrived with maps that were a couple years outdated. Connecting it to the pc with the included cable took care of that in short order. I could only download the lower 48 states initially due to memory constraints.
Summary: I have been using a Nuvi 255W for the last 3 yrs but have never updated the map. Prices have come down so much on GPS units that it is more cost effective to buy a new one. The Nuvi 50LM is almost an exact replacement except it has a 5" screen instead of 4.3 and it comes with free lifetime map...
Summary: This is a great GPS, its has take me from Texas to Pennsylvania and back to Arizona. The only issue is when you get off the highway to get gas, it sometime takes the long way to get back to the highway... I'm not sure why.
Summary: It seems to be more reliable than when I first received it. I downloaded the maps again and that helped. I do like having it. It is a bit tedious when entering addresses and such. It does not have the touch screen capability - and aren't we all spoiled now? I am!
Summary: Bought this Nuvi 50LM because my 3 year old Nextar X3 doesn't have map updates and it also started to take me in circles sometimes. Bought the 50LM for the Garmin reputation, the 5" screen, and the life time updates.
A Good GPS Unit; Just Verify Where It's Taking You

Summary: I've used this Garmin now on several extended automobile trips. It performs well and is well worth money. Biggest Pluses: It's amazingly quick at acquiring the satellites. My Magellan is so slow picking up 4 satellites that it s barely usable at times.
Beware!!! Freezes on boot screen after software update

Summary: I've used the unit for about 3 months now and its had its hiccups before (freezing, not recalculating a new route, not have most up to date maps even after updates). But this time it just froze on me on the bootup screen, stuck on the Garmin logo.
