  • Summary: This product do not pick up traffic like other garmin I have owned. I need a product that calculate a better route if there is a accident and the traffic is backed up. When this happen now, I have to use google on my phone to get a better route because pressing detour on the GPS do not calculate the best route for traffic.

  • Summary: I just received today and upon first look the Unit was very dirty with fingerprints on screen. I looked at other items in box and the suction cup mount has something sticky on it as well as a dry thick substance all over it. I thought when I read the details that they cleaned refurbished products before they were resold??? Not in my unlucky case I guess.

BEWARE OF "LIFETIME MAPS"

kjens, Amazon
6 December 2012
  • Summary: We purchased this unit as an emergency replacement for another Garmin unit that died (turned out to be the power adaptor) during a trip. I was interested in the larger screen compared to our Nuvi 255 unit and the lifetime maps option. Verdict: Larger screen and lane indicator features were nice in high traffic/multiple lane areas. Lifetime maps is a very misleading term.

Not for preplanned routes

James H. Fox, Amazon
11 January 2012
  • Summary: This is a good GPS with a large clear screen that many people will find useful, but not me. I travel by computing my routes on Delorme Topo 7, and then transferring them to my TomTom Go 720 via .GPX files. But the Garmin nuvi 50LM does not let you do this. It apparently only has the very limited function of allowing you to import addresses from Google Maps. And these are addresses only, not routes.

Many weakness

Mr. S. Garcia Camargo "Sergio Garcia", Amazon
22 November 2013
  • Summary: I have the following complaints about this GPS: - Typing on the screen is awful: precision is simply not there and there is a noticeable lag between touching and on-screen display. - Streets auto-complete function is horrible and barely works. In most cases I end up having to type the whole street name, which makes it VERY error prone (partly because of the fact that typing is awful). My 5 years old magellan GPS would auto-complete much better!

No Route or Trip Planning Capability

Bush Pig, Amazon
9 July 2013
  • Summary: This portable GPS is gathering dust because it lacks route or trip planning capability. That is, one cannot view alternative routes for a trip and then select the appropriate route. In addition, one can only set a single via point, assuming one knows a desired via point. (The route will be adjusted to pass the via point.) A competent GPS would allow several via points to be set and then optimize the route. Back to dead tree road maps in my Mazda MX-5.
